New Mexico Innovation and Commercialization Ecosystem Lead - Full-time

If you're the type of person who wants to shape the future of technology on Earth (and beyond!), build startups with breakthrough tech, and run complex programs - then we should talk.

Who we are

  • FedTech is a group of entrepreneurially-minded people on a mission to unlock the benefits of technology
  • We believe in the value of deep tech and its positive impact on the world, aspiring to democratize access to it for entrepreneurs and professionals around the world
  • We are venture builders who thrive at the intersection of US entrepreneurship, breakthrough technologies, and mission-driven organizations.
  • Since 2015, we have successfully driven deep tech ventures with individuals, companies, universities, and government agencies to stay at the bleeding edge of innovation.

What you'll do

FedTech is growing into the world's deep tech innovation platform - in 2022, we're on track to build 50+ new ventures from scratch and accelerate 150+ established startups, along with directly supporting the United States' R&D innovation engine. As we scale our venture building capabilities, we are looking to have greater regional impact in ecosystems that are ripe for innovation. FedTech is looking to grow its footprint into New Mexico and be part of the rich federal and national lab ecosystem and regional development efforts through novel approaches to entrepreneurship and technology commercialization.

As the FedTech Innovation and Commercialization Ecosystem Lead in New Mexico, you'll lead the strategy for how FedTech builds and manages its presence in the
New Mexico ecosystem by maintaining executive level relationships with national labs, economic development organizations, city and state officials, academic institutions, and industry. As part of a two-year pilot project with Sandia National Laboratories, you will be part of the core team to establish national networks, partnerships and processes that can effectively commercialize DOE technologies that benefit local New Mexico stakeholders and communities. Your responsibilities will include metrics such as growth, retention, and partnership engagement across our community, bringing together a vast network of entrepreneurs, inventors, industry, investors, and other strategic partners. Typical work includes:
  • Development and execution of a strategic plan to catalyze the New Mexico innovation ecosystem through FedTech's innovation programming (Startup Studio)
  • Identify potential connections between stakeholders that can benefit the commercialization process of DOE technologies by identifying potential industry partners, resources and facilities.
  • Consult and advise local entrepreneurs on potential partnerships and opportunities for SMEs in New Mexico.
  • Utilize creative outreach methods - including various social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) and a relationships-based approach to foster new relationships and potential partnerships for the program in New Mexico and the surrounding region.
  • Develop and maintain internal processes and databases (CRM) for community maintenance, growth, and outreach
  • Organize regular community engagement events
  • Participate in professional development activities - training, mentorship and networking
  • Almost anything else within reason -- we're a startup!

Successful candidates:
  • 10+ years of community development, project, program, or operational management experience
  • Knowledge of the New Mexico innovation landscape including the national laboratories
  • Basic knowledge of technology transfer and commercialization
  • Natural connector who builds strong relationships across a diverse group of roles easily
  • Focus on detail and on-time delivery - a well-rounded project manager
  • Experience with various CRM and relationship management tools
  • Curious, empathetic, and methodical, but comfortable in a fast-paced environment
  • A deep-tech enthusiast
  • Medium to expert level in Excel and other MS Office software. Must be tech-savvy.
  • Relentlessly action-driven (testing, measuring, iterating) and self-directed
  • Committed to diversity, equity and inclusion

What we value:
  • Grit: courage, resolve, and professionalism to persevere in uncertainty and failure.
  • Conscientiousness: goal-oriented, efficient, organized, hard-working and reliable
  • Self-Awareness: Without honest and frequent introspection, we cannot improve
  • Execution: We are biased towards action, rapid learning, reflection and iteration.
  • Integrity: Our reputation is everything to - it takes years to build but can be destroyed overnight if our moral compass ever wavers.
  • People: We treat our team members as we would like to be treated.
  • Extreme ownership: We take full responsibility for everything that goes wrong and share the glory when things go as intended.
  • Non-conformity: Because "....that's how it's always been done" is not acceptable
