Job Description

Title: Preschool and Elementary Media Specialist- 12-month position

Responsible To: School Administration


  1. Evidence of knowledge of media program and the ability to implement it.
  2. Evidence of ability to interact collaboratively with staff, students, parents, and Administration.
  3. Evidence of excellent oral and written skills.
  4. Must pass drug test and level 2 background check.

  1. Provides instruction in the skills necessary to access information in all formats to both large groups and individual students. 
  2. Write lesson plans and newsletters that meet the goals as set forth by Administration.
  3. Establishes and maintains standards for acceptable student behavior using appropriate techniques and equipment/materials properly.
  4. Oversees and trains staff on copyright policies and procedures.
  5. Guides staff in the selection of media to enhance lessons.
  6. Develops and maintains a balanced comprehensive collection of print media, non-print media, and technology.
  7. Follow Policies and Procedures as set forth by Administration.
  8. Provide a clean, safe, and nurturing classroom environment.
  9. Participate in all school meetings, trainings, and orientations.
  10. Complete all in-service hours on time.
  11.  Turn in all required paperwork on time.
  12. Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-school activities.
  13. Cooperating and networking with other libraries, librarians, and agencies to provide access to resources outside the school.
  14.  Organizes the collection for maximum and effective use.
  15. Strives to continuously build knowledge and skills; shares expertise with         others.
  16. Ensuring that school library program goals and objectives are aligned with school and district long-range strategic plans.
  17.  All other duties as assigned.
