RF Systems Engineering Director

This role will work closely with the executive management team to identify high-value innovations for the product roadmaps and develop solutions around those products to demonstrate their value. Primary activities include providing system-level insight to other functional teams and leading the development of LEO/MEO/GEO SATCOM and MANET Radio Technology. This position requires a strong understanding of RF/wireless systems and the ability to perform all phases of hardware design and development: design, simulation, schematic capture, PCB design, test, and debug. Fairwinds will consider this position working out of APG, MD, Teleworking, or at Newark, DE, with preference being located at our Delaware office.


  • Collaborate with Program Managers and the Engineering Team to guide communication systems roadmap and radio architectures
  • Analyze and verify radio performance across a variety of standards and specifications
  • Develop strategies to ensure conformance to regulatory and DoD requirements
  • Lead development of reference design hardware
  • Collaborate with partners to develop modular antenna solutions
  • Provide deepest level of technical support to Program Management and Sales teams
  • Assist in design verification and validation of RF integrated circuits
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to less experienced team members
  • Eligible for Performance Bonuses


  • Masters in Electrical or Systems Engineering plus 5 years RF design/product experience, or BSEE plus 10 years wireless design/product experience
  • Wireless system experience including knowledge of analog and digital modulation schemes
  • Understanding of radio specifications and standards
  • Experience designing for FPGA based Transmission Systems
  • Experience with RF simulation tools (Keysight Genesys, MATLAB or equivalent)
  • Experience with schematic development and PCB layout of radio designs
  • Strong system and board troubleshooting and debug skills
  • Experience using spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and other RF lab equipment
  • Experience with bench testing and analysis of radio designs (including automation)
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Previous exposure to RFIC & FPGA designs
  • Able to obtain a US DOD Secret Security Clearance
  • US Citizen
