  • Provides leadership and management functions to a group consisting of various levels of skilled plant mechanics and welders.
  • Directs, plans, and supervises the work of mechanics and welders, assesses, and coordinates the mechanical preventive and corrective maintenance programs for a large, advanced sewage treatment facility.
  • Participates in work group setting to achieve collaborative outcomes.
  • Evaluates work productivity using a computerized maintenance management system.
  • Reviews plant utility and design drawings, assesses cause and effect of equipment failure.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing.
  • Reviews and approves manufactures shop drawings prior to fabrication.
  • Participates in the design and constructability of plant upgrades and expansion, utilizes online and hard copy of o & m manuals.
  • Develops employment interview questions and conducts interviews, performs employee's performance evaluations.
  • Utilizes computers for administrative tasks.
  • Performs other related work to include, but not limited to, workplace conduct and ensures employees compliance with requirements of safety manual.
  • Evaluates competencies of subordinates.

Employment Standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: High school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education; plus two years of experience as an industrial maintenance mechanic; plus one year at the Plant Mechanic III level or equivalent senior treatment plant or pumping station mechanic.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid motor vehicle driver's license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, pre-employment medical evaluation, and a driver's license check to the satisfaction of the employer.
  • Subject to 24 hour call back and must, therefore, be able to work emergency overtime. Subject to working in adverse weather conditions and may be exposed to raw waste.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Three years of industrial wastewater experience working in the capacity of a plant mechanic.
  • Possession of a confined space training certificate
  • Experience performing inspections of plant operating assets to ensure proper functioning.
  • Experience and expertise in the wastewater treatment process.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to stand, stoop, bend, stretch, walk, climb, sit, kneel, crouch, reach, crawl, lift and handle materials with manual dexterity. Ability to climb ladders, steps and scaffolding and work in elevated underground and closely confined areas. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Ability to read, write and understand equipment manual directions. Work in elevated, underground, and closely confined areas. Working conditions may include inclement weather, as well as being exposed to hazardous conditions. Exposure to airborne substances and hazardous chemicals. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
