Job Description
FEFA is seeking Veterinary Technician III at our Aberdeen, MD location to assist management in efficient contract operations and maintain an effective, positive and professional relationship with both FEFA and Government staff. 

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Applies appropriate medical terminology in all methods of communication.
  • Provides supervision for technical staff to include evaluation, correction and mentoring.
  • Administer drugs IV, IM, SQ, IP, ID and PO.
  • Safely and correctly handles and restrains animals for observation and or minor procedures
  • Collects physiological data (body temperature, pulse, heart rate) and enters in medical record
  • Receive instruction and demonstrate proficiency of completing tasks.
  • Calculate doses; does treatments as directed by the veterinarian
  • Identify and communicate signs of abnormal or poor health
  • Assists the veterinarian (or scientist) in surgical procedures
  • Performs humane euthanasia (as directed)
  • Maintains sanitary conditions of all treatment and surgical areas.
  • Develop and revise SOP’s as requested.
  • Collects, preserves and prepares blood, urine, feces, skin scrapings, tagging and tailing.
  • Collects post-mortem specimens for shipment and evaluation
  • Performs endotracheal tube insertion and gavage techniques
  • Cleans, debrides, and sutures superficial wounds at the veterinarian's direction
  • Places intravenous catheters using aseptic technique and maintains them appropriately
  • Operates mechanical ventilators, anesthesia machines, ECG, capnography, performs other related activities.
  • Ability to perform PCR, and colony management.
  • Assist in the revision and development of SOPs, policies, and procedures.
  • Correctly assesses and "scores" animals monitored for pain, respiratory difficulty, appetite, tumor development, ascites, etc.
  • Maintains all records, identifies and recommends new skills for staff to attain
  • Evidence of critical thinking skills (e.g. reviewing procedures, monitoring technical staff for efficiency and uniformity in skill application)          


  • Associates of Arts Degree in Veterinary Technology or equivalent experience.
  • Hold a current AALAS certification at the LAT or be eligible to take exam at time of hire. 
  • Minimum 4 years of veterinary technical experience. 
  • Must have fundamental knowledge of animal anatomy and medical terminology.
  •  COVID 19 vaccine and full proof of vaccination required.
  •  Must be US Citizen and ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.
