POSITION SUMMARY:
The Dental Assistant Trainer is responsible for working alongside the Training Coordinator in developing and facilitating the curriculum for the Family Health Center Training Institute for Dental Assistants. This role will provide support in curriculum development, review, and revisions, recruitment, and assessment. Duties require a thorough knowledge of dental skills, both technical and emotional, as well as maintenance of credentials to perform the responsibilities of a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) or Registered Dental Assistant (RDA). DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- FHC Employee Engagement: participates in organizational events within the community and Family Health Center.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge through continuing education to ensure credentials remain active and in good standing.
- Create Dental Assistant training program with the Director of Training, Leadership, and Development for student apprentices and new hires.
- Develop collaborative relationships with students, preceptors, and dental staff.
- Assist in the use of Schedule Anywhere to pair students and preceptors.
- Assist and train the dental team on the effective use of EMR systems including EPIC, Dentrix, Dexis, and E Prescribe.
- Provide didactic instruction to dental assistant student apprentices in the Family Health Center Training Institute.
- Employ an equity and inclusion lens in all aspects of recruitment, retention, development, facilitation, and assessment for the Training Institute.
- Coordinate all student interns and externs in the dental clinic to provide meaningful educational and training opportunities.
- Maintain standard operating procedures.
- Develop and maintain tracking measures to improve dental clinic flow and improve patient satisfaction.
- Leads and teaches by example with compassion and empathy aimed at professional, top-rate patient care.
- Other duties as assigned.

- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles.

- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
- The employee is frequently required to stand or sit. The employee is occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms; or stoop. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the ability to acquire knowledge of electronic health systems.
- Must have adequate transportation to be able to commute to any of the Family Health Center sites.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, students, and colleagues.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:
· Must have or be able to obtain certification as a CDA or RDA
· 3-5 years of dental experience or a similar combination of experience and education
· Teaching and curriculum development experience a plus
· Must be professional in communication (verbal and written) and appearance
· Strong clinical and “soft skills” in patient care are highly desired
· Experience with EPIC and Dentrix preferred
