Position: Teacher Assistant/ Adult Assistant
Report To: School Principal/Homeroom Teacher
Work Location: 5350 Machado Road Culver City, CA 90230
Compensation: $15.00 to $17.50 per hour depending on experience
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am to 2:30pm
During the school day, the Teacher Assistant/ Adult Assistant models appropriate behavior and provides support to students who have learning, emotional, and developmental challenges in dealing with their daily behavioral and social-emotional needs. Before or after school the Teacher Assistant either supports the classroom teacher or supervises students on the morning or afternoon bus routes.
Classroom – School Day:
Following the teacher’s instruction, circulate through the classroom checking students’ work and providing assistance in completing assignments.
Support the classroom team in the development/implementation/fulfillment of the students’ goals, IEP goals, and objectives, especially as they pertain to problem solving and behavior.
Attend conferences with the family of each student during the school year as necessary.
Provide active supervision during physical education class, sports, and other recreational activities.
Assist in supervising social-recreational periods, nutrition, and lunch periods.
Classroom – Before and After School:
Under the teacher’s direction, set-up classroom, conduct on-line research, update bulletin boards, make copies, grade student work and record grades, and assemble student files.
Accurately document Behavioral/Social-Emotional activities of students and update the teacher on student information, behavioral changes and other pertinent information.
Support teacher's case management for each student as it pertains to preparation for IEP meetings, parent conferences, and matriculation.
Support the teacher’s maintenance of student records including Pupil Records of Progress (completed daily), parent contacts and conferences, behavioral check sheets, progress on behavioral goals, and other documentation as needed.
Remain within physical proximity of assigned student(s) at all times.
Assist with individual student’s emotional/psychological needs.
Monitor students on school transportation bus on morning or afternoon route as assigned.
Maintain professional appearance, demeanor and boundaries.
Comply with ECF’s Injury and illness Prevention Program. Ensure safe use and operation of tools and/or equipment.
Comply with ECF policies and procedures, including mandated reporting requirements.
Maintain regular and reliable attendance;
Attend and participate in ECF Kayne Eras School in-service training sessions, staff meetings, weekly core and/or team meetings, programs and activities as requested.
Perform reasonably related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required.
Education/Licenses/Certifications: High School diploma or equivalent. Substitute Credential required.
Experience: One year working with children with special needs, learning, behavioral, emotional and/or developmental disabilities in a direct service capacity.
Pass a DOJ and FBI background investigation and clearance.
Provide evidence of a negative TB test initially and every three years thereafter.
Obtain and maintain NCI, First Aid and CPR certification.
Ability to implement/perform First Aid/CPR/NCI
