This job posting is open to Postpartum/GYN or Antepartum or Labor/Delivery/Recovery RN roles within the Family Maternity Center.
Responsible for the total direct nursing care of all patients within established standards of care, hospital and unit policies, procedures, and guidelines. Registered Nurses on the Family Maternity Center are responsible for care of patients during labor/delivery/recovery or high risk antepartum or postpartum/GYN. Must have the knowledge and ability to competently assess and care for women in the Postpartum periods, including their educational needs. Knowledge and ability to competently assess and care for normal neonates, providing for their needs in a warm, safe environment in the company of the infant's family; communicates appropriately with Special Care Nursery nurses and/or pediatricians when the neonate's status moves beyond normal expectations for well-born infants. Ability to provide post-anesthesia care to patients recovering from spinal or epidural anesthesia following a C-section or vaginal delivery. Knowledge gained by attendance at a Basic Lactation Course and the ability to provide breastfeeding assistance to our patients consistent with our Family Maternity Center philosophy.
For the labor nurse role advanced fetal monitor strip interpretation required. Assessment of the laboring patient including identifying alterations in the normal labor process. Assist in infant stabilization. Ability to circulate in the operating room for a C-section, PPTL, or other unexpected outcome or emergency. Appropriate phone advice and triage service to pregnant patients. Recent Labor and Delivery experience required.
For the high-risk antepartum nurse role antepartum care, including knowledge of medications involved in treatment and advanced fetal monitor strip interpretation required.
For the postpartum/GYN nurse role they must have the knowledge and ability to competently assess and care for women in the Postpartum and post GYN surgical phase including their educational needs.
Essential Job Functions:
1.Provides direct patient care and functions as a patient advocate.
2.Assesses the comprehensive nursing needs of an assigned group of patients.
3.Coordinates the patient and family/significant other education process.
4.Continuously plans, implements, and evaluates patient care, incorporating patient and family/significant other into the process.
5.Participates with physician partners and other interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement patient and family/significant other plan of care.
6.Communicates effectively all relevant information (e.g., patient information, safety issues, problems with equipment, quality issues, etc.) to immediate supervisor, in timely way.
7.Communicates and documents changes in patient condition, on a timely basis, to charge nurse/supervisor and physician.
8.Accountable for following the guidelines for attendance, punctuality and overall dependability. Accountable for effective performance and follow-through of all assigned responsibilities and for completing responsibilities within designated (or agreed upon) timeframes. Completes responsibilities in a manner consistent with organizational policy, goals and values.
9.Responsible for the "Accountabilities" associated with this position in support of the organization.
10.Performs other duties as assigned.
License, Certification, Education or Experience:
REQUIRED for the position:
Bachelor's in Nursing (BSN) or required within 5-years of employment if applicable
Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Washington
Current Healthcare Provider BLS certification by date of hire
NRP certification within 4 weeks of hire
DESIRED for the position:
Master's degree in Nursing
Current FMC RN experience
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between EvergreenHealth and the Washington State Nurses Association (WSNA). Union membership is optional.
