Job Description: REAL Journey Academies (RJA) is a non-profit charter school management organization designed to significantly increase college entrance and graduation rates for underserved students in the Inland Empire. We aim to impact and revitalize communities through the development of education and other supportive partnerships. Entrepreneur High School San Bernardino (eHigh SB) is a dynamic charter high school currently operating in San Bernardino, CA, where entrepreneurship is taught across disciplines. The school uniquely focuses on student skill development through the infusion of an entrepreneurial spirit, while developing students who are fully college and career ready through a rigorous A-G aligned curriculum. Job Purpose: eHigh SB is seeking a highly innovative Associate Principal to support the Principal in leading a talented and mission driven staff of entrepreneurial thinkers and who are committed to shepherding the school to the next level of academic excellence. This individual will assist and work closely with the Principal to lead and implement the instructional vision to achieve outstanding academic results. The Associate Principal should possess a deep knowledge of teaching and instruction as well as demonstrated success in engaging and inspiring a school community to achieve high levels of student success. The Associate Principal, under the general direction of the Principal, works in all aspects of the educational program and to build rewarding work environments that retain exceptionally talented educators and students. The Associate Principal is a master of student management and building a positive student culture, as well as assisting the Principal in translating the needs of school students into a well-organized and effective school. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Entrepreneurial Leadership Assist the principal in effectively communicating the vision of entrepreneurship to multiple stakeholders. Assist the principal in driving instructional excellence by leading and managing Professional Learning for staff around entrepreneurship, technology, and project-based learning. Assist the principal in promoting an entrepreneurial mindset of learning from failure and exemplify innovative, outside of the box thinking. Assist the principal in fostering an environment of continuous improvement through teacher evaluations in content curriculum and practices united with entrepreneurship skills. Team Leadership Demonstrates a thorough understanding of current approaches to effective teaching and learning. Provides professional leadership to staff within the areas of designated responsibility by the principal. Makes constructive contributions to the work of the school management team in a manner which supports effective school organization and improved learning outcomes for students. Understands, and applies where appropriate, current practices for effective management from both within and beyond education. Supports the principal in the leadership and management of the school; while reflecting on their own performance assessment and demonstrates a commitment to own on-going learning in order to improve performance. Organizes and plans the entire senior experience around senior recognition and graduation. Provides critical leadership to recruit and retain students into the school; including ownership of student recruitment and retention plans. Teaching & Learning Assist the building principal to fully implement with fidelity the REAL Journey Academies Instructional Framewor k, including providing high quality professional development and coaching to support. Assists in the organization and administration of all standardized testing, including all components of PSAT/SAT, NWEA MAP, and internal short-cycle assessments; reporting test score data analysis as assigned. Sharing research with faculty and staff on pedagogy, cultural competency/multicultural education, assessment of and for learning in order to cultivate an approach to classroom culture/management that promotes optimal student learning. Serve as an instructional resource for intervention and equity services to support the development and growth of equitable systems and practices within the school. Student Management & School Climate Meeting and listening to concerns of students on a regular basis, building quality relationships that are productive to meet the school’s mission. Encouraging, guiding and assisting student leaders and teachers. Meeting with parents and administrators on a regular basis for problem resolution. Lead the implementation of policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to student behavior and attendance; supporting staff to maintain discipline throughout the student body and participating in disciplinary hearings when applicable. Assist teachers with behavior management plans and strategies; working with student services staff in providing guidance and motivation for student success and in collaboratively developing plans for students who struggle. Coordinate and facilitate restorative practices approach to discipline and serves as a liaison with coordinators in other buildings to support a systemic approach. Communicate with students, parents, and staff in a timely manner regarding student behavior and attendance. Assists in development of student recognition and informational programs. Innovation & Culture Assist the principal with designing interdisciplinary curriculum with a focus on entrepreneurship and technology. Assist the principal with bringing to life student interdisciplinary experiences such as internships, events, higher education opportunities, real-world entrepreneurship, etc. Assist the principal in creating a culture of high expectations with a focus in collaborative interdisciplinary curricular design and teaching. Assist the principal in building a strong school-wide culture amongst students, staff and families that promote college and career readiness for every student. Share successful practices beyond the site. Expectations Adhere to all RJA Policies and Procedures, and policies and practices of the RJA Academic Leadership Team. To fulfil the expectations of the position, with an understanding fulfillment of job duties will take hours outside of the normal duty day. Builds trust and ongoing positive relationships with constituents. Maintain regular attendance; adhere to RJA practice regarding attendance and leaves of absence. Perform all outlined duties and responsibilities consistent with the scope and intent of the position with strict confidentiality. Immediately communicate any concerns directly to the Chief Academic Officer. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Passion for working with traditionally underserved communities in high performance settings. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Entrepreneurial spirit with an interest in innovative practices. Proven ability to build and cultivate relationships with adult stakeholders. Ability to influence an atmosphere of professionalism amongst all personnel. Proficient documented skills in student management systems and building a positive and productive school culture in an urban environment. Able to perform duties with minimal work direction. Ability to work both independently and cooperatively, exercise judgment and creativity and willingness to work with others as a team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated competency to interact with people at all levels of the organization. A demonstrated willingness to engage in professional development activities in order to develop and improve new and current skills, and to adapt to the evolving needs of the organization. Demonstrated ability to bring people and resources together around best practices. Demonstrated high level of integrity and a commitment to stated RJA goals. Demonstrated ability to create a professional learning community focused on quality instruction and learning and experience in implementing best practices. Demonstrated ability in developing productive working relationships with network and school administration, staff, parents, and students. Skills to organize ideas, time, materials and space with attention to details to accomplish goals and meet deadlines. Ability to work effectively under pressure from the public, workload, and employees. Additionally, experience in the following areas is desired: CTE experience or expertise. A background in technology, entrepreneurship, or innovative classroom teaching. Experience with the design of innovative educational systems. Experience with project-based learning: a dynamic classroom approach in which students actively explore real-world problems and challenges and acquire a deeper knowledge. Knowledge and practice of the Lean Startup, Design Thinking, and Business Model Canvas models. Minimum Requirements: Master’s Degree in Education or related field from an accredited college or university. Preference given to bilingual candidates who can speak Spanish fluently. Administrative experience strongly preferred. Valid California Administrative credential strongly preferred. One or more successful years of school leadership experience. Physical demands Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Occasional or frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping and reaching for extended periods of time. Occasional computer work including but not limited to typing. Compensation & Benefits This is an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated educator to assume a fundamental role in an innovative school environment. The salary range for this position is $105,000-$120,000 A signing bonus and relocation allowance are available for an outstanding candidate.
