Job Description

General Description: The Addiction Psychiatrist will be based at the Enterhealth Ranch.

• Enterhealth is the leading addiction treatment provider in the southwest.

• Multi-disciplinary team. Team consists of master's level therapists, neuro-psychologists, 24-hour nursing team and addiction trained physicians. Team works collaboratively and is aligned in the sole goal of having a good treatment outcome for the patients we serve.

• 38 bed campus. It is a high-end boutique atmosphere on 43 acres. Each patient has his/her own room and bath. Accommodations are designed first class with the intention to keep a patient's dignity intact.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for admission, diagnosis, medication management, and client care.
  • Oversees nurse management, assessment, intervention and crisis management.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of facility policies.
  • Functions as interdisciplinary Treatment Team member.
  • Facilitate special topic groups.
  • Facilitate various trainings for Enterhealth staff.
  • Adhere to local, state and federal guidelines.
  • Supports the mission, vision, values and standards of Enterhealth.
  • Complete Discharge Note and Summary for clients.
  • Approve all medical policies, procedures, guidelines, tools, and the medical content of all forms, which shall include:
  1. Screening instruments and procedures.
  2. Protocol or standing orders for each major drug category of abusable drugs (opiates, alcohol and other sedative-hypnotic/anxiolytics, inhalants, stimulants, hallucinogens) that are consistent with guidelines published by nationally recognized organizations (e.g., Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, American Society of Addiction Medicine, American Academy of Addiction Psychology).
  3. Procedures to deal with medical emergencies.
  • Authorize all admissions, conduct a face-to-face examination, to include a psychiatric evaluation and a history and physical examination of each client to establish the diagnosis, assess level of intoxication or withdrawal potential, and determine the need for treatment and the type of treatment to be provided to reach a placement decision.
  • Provide monitoring to manage the client's physical symptoms and document in the client's record and reflect in the client's orders. Monitoring shall include:
  1. Changes in mental status.
  2. Vital signs.
  3. Response of the client’s symptoms to the prescribed detoxification medications.
  • Perform various administrative duties as assigned.
  • Follows policies and procedures of Enterhealth.

 

Qualifications:

  • Board certification in Psychiatry or Addiction Psychiatry.
  • Board Certification through American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) preferred.
  • Current Texas Medical License with restrictions.
  • Previous experience as Chief Medical Officer or Medical Director of substance dependency treatment services preferred.
  • Knowledge that psychiatric and substance use disorders are potentially recurrent relapsing disorders and that although abstinence is the goal, relapses can be opportunities for learning and growth.
  • Knowledge of substance use disorders on developmental, social, and physical growth.
  • Knowledge of interpersonal and family dynamics and their impact on individuals.
  • Knowledge of the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) diagnostic criteria for psychiatric disorders and substance use disorders and the relationship between psychiatric disorders and substance use disorders.
  • Knowledge regarding the increased risks of self-harm, suicide, and violence in individuals.
  • Knowledge of the elements of an integrated treatment plan and community support plan for individuals.
  • Basic knowledge of pharmacology as it relates to individuals with a mental disorder.
  • Basic understanding of the neurophysiology of addiction.
  • Knowledge of the phases of recovery for individuals.
  • Knowledge of the relationship between COPSD and DSM Axis III disorders.
  • Knowledge of self-help in recovery.
  • Ability to perform age-appropriate assessments of clients.
  • Ability to formulate an individualized treatment plan and community support plan for client.
  • Ability to tailor interventions to the process of recovery for clients.
  • Ability to tailor interventions with readiness to change.
  • Ability to engage and support clients who choose to participate in 12-step recovery programs.
