Job Description


Education:           Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Equivalent

Training:               Functional knowledge of hierarchical schematic capture software

                                Functional knowledge of an FPGA programming language, such as Verilog or VHDL

                                Functional knowledge of an FPGA development environment, such as Quartus or Vivado

                                Functional knowledge of ModelSim FPGA simulation software

                                Functional knowledge of IEEE 1149 JTAG electronic circuit testing

Experience:        Five years or Equivalent :

1) Designing FPGA-based circuits including component selection

2) Pinning FPGA designs in conjunction with PCB design engineer

3) Testing and validating 1st article FPGA-based circuit boards


Task Descriptions (as part of IPT with ME, PCB EE, and embedded/host software engineers):


1.       System requirements analysis and architecture development – alternate approach evaluation

2.       Part selection – FPGA and boot PROMs, DDRs & QDRs, clock buffers, I/O transceivers

3.       IPT design reviews and design updates as required

4.       Bank voltage selection/pinning during PCB placement, may change during routing

5.       External memory pinout/SSN/package skew during placement, may change during routing

6.       Transceiver pinout during placement, may change during routing

7.       Dummy FPGA compiles – resource utilization and pinout confirmation for PCB routing

8.       Power budgets – worst case and typical power utilization per voltage rail

9.       Simulations at component level and top level

10.   Timing constraints – internal FPGA timing margins

11.   PCB board start-up – electronic circuit and PCB design initial power-up verifications

12.   External memory IC interface margin testing

13.   Eye diagrams/(EyeQ or Eye Scan)/transceiver emphasis and equalization adjustments

14.   Logic testing/integration – requirement-traceable verification and upgrade regression testing

15.   Software specification – API memory maps and CSR functional descriptions

16.   System Integration – system level hardware and software testing
