Job Description

Reporting to the SVP Engineering and Construction, the VP/Director of Engineering will be responsible for framing and developing the conceptual designs of distributed energy systems as well as overseeing the detailed final design of the systems. This includes outlining the most cost-effective technical solution addressing the client specific needs utilizing various distributed energy resource technologies including combined heat & power (CHP), fuel cells, energy storage, solar & geothermal. The role may be located in either of our Anaheim, Chicago, Houston, L.A., or New York offices. (Position title will be based upon experience.)

Responsibilities will include:

  • Evaluate client situation and needs in order to lead the conceptual design of appropriate DER systems
  • Develop, assess or review of conceptual single line diagrams, mechanical heat balances and equipment layouts
  • Oversee the development of work scopes, equipment sizing and preparation of equipment specifications
  • Ensure internal and external engineering work is performed accurately to design and specifications
  • Lead and/or direct site walkdowns for technical and project feasibility assessment
  • Collaborate with procurement, engineering and construction partners to prepare project cost estimates and project schedules
  • Support identification, evaluation and qualification of new engineering, supplier or construction partners
  • Collaborate with clients, contractor and supplier partners to develop solutions and resolve issues
  • Ensure all relevant standards and codes are adhered in design, manufacturing and construction of equipment and systems
  • Manage deliverable reports and presentations including meetings with clients and management.


  • Min 10-15 years in relevant energy system design and construction
  • Bachelor’s Degree (minimum) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical fundamentals of distributed energy systems
  • Strong problem-solving and communications skills

  • Ability to work in small teams within a faced-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, MS Project and AutoCAD
