As a Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for several key roles to support agricultural energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction programs run by EnSave nationwide.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Research and documentation of promising new and emerging agricultural energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies

  • Providing technical assistance to support the business development team

  • On-site collection of energy end-use data, including equipment submetering

  • Assist with the generation of energy audits and or renewable energy assessments for farm clients throughout the US

  • Meeting with farm operators, utility clients, agtech companies, and subcontractors

  • Overseeing and maintaining EnSave’s greenhouse database and benchmarking tool

  • Assist with management of select programs involving evaluation of emerging technologies

  • Contributing to the leadership of the technical team

You will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and coordination of your workload will be the responsibility for the CEO.

Specific duties and responsibilities of the Senior Engineer include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Research and analyze appropriate agricultural technologies
  • Research and identify energy efficiency technologies and practices that create value for agricultural producers across all agricultural subsectors (dairy, greenhouse, poultry, irrigation, etc.)

  • Use manufacturer specifications, technical literature, and available research to assess and calculate energy usage, cost, and other performance characteristics of agricultural equipment

  • Provide technical expertise for proposals and programs
  • Develop energy and greenhouse gas reduction estimates for new programs

  • Assist in developing and updating energy savings tools

  • Maintain engineering documentation for all agricultural energy technologies

  • Service as a technical resource for clients and staff

  • Support EnSave’s evaluation, measurement & verification (EM&V) activities

  • Provide technical assistance to EnSave and clients
  • Serve as a point of contact and technical resource for EnSave’s greenhouse database benchmarking tool

  • Communicate with clients about measures proposed in energy audit and renewable energy assessment reports

  • Create and perform custom calculations for non-standard energy-efficient equipment

  • Where appropriate, assist in the development of energy audit reports

Position Requirements

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in the energy efficiency industry gained through work at an energy consulting firm or utility company. Familiarity with utility demand-side management programs is highly desired. Ideal candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and hold a professional engineering license.

Desirable qualifications include:

  • At least three years’ professional experience

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification

  • Expertise with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to travel on a limited basis to visit farms and clients

  • Knowledge of commercial greenhouse operations is a plus

  • Knowledge of energy utility energy efficiency programs is a plus
