Direct Hire, Full Time
Hours: 8:00am-5:00pm, Mon-Fri
Position Description
Client is seeking a Steam Generator Systems Engineer for the Xe-100 high-temperature gas reactor. The Xe-100 is a first-of-a-kind Generation IV nuclear reactor being designed to produce clean, carbon-free electricity or high-temperature steam. The key objective is to develop a design that has advantages in sustainability, economics, reliability and safety relative to current day power generation units.
The Steam Generator Systems Engineer will oversee the design of the Steam Generator System. This includes concept development, evaluation of concepts, and analysis of components for operation within a reactor environment. The Systems Engineer must work collaboratively with other engineers, design analysts, suppliers and project stakeholders to coordinate the successful design of the Steam Generator System.
The Steam Generator Systems Engineer will manage the design of the Xe-100 plant Steam Generator System. Candidates must be skilled in systems engineering and have a good understanding of thermodynamic principles, structural analysis and steam-cycle power production systems. The Steam Generator Systems Engineer responsibilities are to:
  • Work closely with engineering managers, supervisors, and design engineers to implement tailored and focused systems engineering best practices and processes that reduce design risk and complexity.
  • Manage the design development of the Steam Generator System including planning, monitoring and controlling the engineering effort through all project life cycle phases.
  • Ensure that project and system level requirements are met in the design of the system and interfaces are properly managed.
  • Work with product development leads and subcontractors to define system and subsystem functional and physical architecture, critical design parameters, and descriptive drawings.
  • Engage vendors in the design and manufacturing of the steam generator system, and evaluate structures, systems, and components for manufacturability as well as assembly and integration considerations.
Minimum Education/Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline from an ABET accredited university.
  • Five years of experience in a position involving steam generator or heat exchanger design, analysis, operation, or maintenance.
  • Qualified candidates that are familiar with nuclear power plant systems, steam power systems and materials for nuclear steam generator applications are encouraged to apply.
Preferred candidates
  • Experience managing sub-contractors and the application of standards and codes for design (e.g., ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code).
  • Familiarity with 3D design modelling tools and software (e.g., Siemens NX, SolidWorks) and/or advanced structural or fluid flow analysis tools is desired.
Core Competencies
To perform the job successfully, the individual should demonstrate competencies in performing the essential functions of this position by performing satisfactorily in each of the following competencies.
  • Problem solving: Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathers and reviews information appropriately. Uses own judgment and acts independently; seeks input from other team members as appropriate for complex or sensitive situations.
