Systems Administrator

This position will support the US Department of Energy Office of Scientific and Technical Information (DOE OSTI) vision to ensure long-term preservation of and access to DOE scientific and technical information through support of windows system administration. This role requires a DOE clearance and requires on-site support.

While a focus on this position is Windows Administration, we will be expecting the candidate to be familiar with many aspects of an IT shop.  Such as Network, Firewall, Linux, Vulnerability Scanning etc.

Duties:

• Install, configure, maintain, and monitor Windows operating systems
• Remediate vulnerabilities
• Upgrade software
• Secure systems and software to DISA STIGs
• Provision accounts and manage group memberships
• Install COTS and custom applications
• Work within IT policies and procedures
• Backup and recovery of systems and data
• Running DNS on Windows Servers
• Document systems’ policy and procedures.
• Coordinate and communicate activities, status updates, outage notifications and schedule information with clients, other IT personnel, and other team members.

Qualifications:

• Education, Training, Experience

  • High school diploma required.
  • Prefer candidates to have or be working toward a degree in computer science, mathematics, or related field from an accredited college or university or with equivalent background.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ system administration experience with Windows.

  Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Experience with Windows operating systems and Active Directory.
  • Experience using VMware vSphere and vCenter.
  • Experience with scripting.
  • Experience managing and updating Exchange.
  • Experience with management or support of Linux environments.
  • Experience with PowerShell.
  • Experience with Ivanti Security Controls.
  • Experience with Microsoft DPM.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, HTTP, SSL, DNS, FTP, SSH, and other common Internet protocols.
  • Familiarity with information security best practices.
  • Familiarity with configuration management practices for operating systems and major applications.
  • Experience with government cyber security requirements such as NIST Special Publication 800-53.
  • Server room management (e.g. - power, cabling, racking).
  • Familiarity with system documentation standards and procedures.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in written format.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail and a focus on delivery.
  • Self-directed, results-oriented, and flexible; works well under pressure and adheres to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of an organization
  • Ability to work as part of a diverse team.
  • Ability to translate technical information to an audience-appropriate level.
  • Experience with remote communications operations involving a variety of protocols.
  • Skilled in the use of MS Office.

  Ability to provide proof of US Citizenship on your first day of employment to obtain a DOE
