Eckerd Connects Girls Academy at Kerr Lake
Eckerd Connects' Girls Short-Term Juvenile Justice Residential Program is a gender responsive, complete rehabilitative experience delivered in 4 to 6 months for girls ages 13-17. This 20-bed program is for girls who are referred by the North Carolina Department of Public Safety Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (DJJ). During the 4-6 month stay, the program assists young women in learning the skills and tools needed to successfully re-integrate with their families, and back into their communities. This residential treatment concept combines promising and evidence-based practices with a strong family transition component and signifies a public-private partnership with the Division of Juvenile Justice which has produced an innovative shift in the way youth are served in North Carolina's juvenile justice system. Intensive, short-term services include individualized treatment and academic plans that combine formal and experiential education, community service, behavioral health, and family counseling in a non-punitive environment designed to address the youth's behavioral challenges through a strength-based approach. Youth also receive accredited educational services on-site and work together in small group settings with assigned counselors.

Provides, coaching, mentoring, mental health, and substance abuse services to youth and families in the program, including assessments, treatment planning, therapy, crisis intervention, and family counseling. Therapeutic sessions will promote growth, positive development, developmental milestones, and supports safety, permanency and well being. As necessary, position may also provide clinical oversight of the provision of mental health and substance abuse services by non-licensed clinical staff members.
- Provide mental health and substance abuse services to youth and families in the program.
- Provide or oversee the mental health and substance abuse screening and assessment of youth throughout treatment in accordance with Eckerd policy and state and/or local contract requirements.
- Ensure that appropriate referrals are made based upon the initial screening and assessment; Ensure that all recommendations and obligations for youth and families from court orders, and case and care plans are met.
- Coordinate and implement therapeutic supervised visitations between youth and custodial and non-custodial parents/guardians, as required by contract.
- Provide or oversee treatment planning, development, writing, modification, and review for assigned youth; sign off on all treatment plans.
- Submit comprehensive summaries and recommendations in advance of staffing’s and court hearings as required by contract or licensing standards.
- Coordinate all treatment regarding psychiatric issues; ensure referrals, observations, appointments, and documentation are completed within the Eckerd policies and contract guidelines.
- Provide mental health and substance abuse crisis intervention, which may include involuntary commitments.
- Provide individual, group, and family therapy to active, assigned caseload of youth and families.
- Participate in all collateral agency activities, to include, but not limited to, court hearings, case planning meetings, and commitment staffing’s.
- Ensure that clinical record contain accurate and complete documentation.
- Provide in-service and on-the-job training as needed and assigned.
- May be required at times to transport youths or clients to/from visits in situations where a transporter is unable to or client is legitimately unable to obtain transport.
- Participate in monthly evaluation of program outcome measures and performance improvement activities.
- Alert supervisor and contracting agency of any safety concerns and barriers to service delivery and case closure that may surface during treatment.
- As assigned, provide clinical supervision to license-eligible and unlicensed mental health professionals to ensure high quality services are delivered.
Other Duties Include, But Not Limited To
- Participate in training and development activities as required.
- Report any acts, incidents or conditions that reflect the possibility of inappropriate youth-to-youth or staff-to-youth relationships.
- Report any use of physical force and all unusual incidents per Eckerd policy and state guidelines.
- Serve as a positive role model for youth and families at all times through appearance, attitude, and behavior.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education: Licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or Clinical Psychologist required. Coursework or practicum experience in group work, family therapy, and/or substance abuse treatment is preferred.
Experience: Two years progressive clinical experience in a multi-disciplinary treatment setting required. Prior experience with juvenile treatment population preferred. Well versed in cognitive behavioral therapy.
Skills: Clinical, testing, interpersonal, organizational, communication and evaluative/diagnostic case writing; excellent verbal and written communication skills; computer literacy. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Other: Must meet state criminal background check requirements. Serves as a positive role model for youth and staff at all times through appearance, attitude, and behavior; must maintain licensure used to obtain employment in this role.
Travel: Must be able to meet requirements for Eckerd’s Auto Insurance and be able to drive for business purposes. Must have and maintain an appropriate and valid state driver’s license.
Physical Demands: Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; May be required to work irregular hours; Must be free of communicable diseases as defined by state and to the extent that knowledge is attainable under the law.
