Description about the job:
The Kessler Center is hiring a behavior intervention specialist (BIS 1 or BIS 2) to support OPWDD certified residential homes as part of a residential special education school. Students in the program have significant developmental disabilities (primarily Autism Spectrum Disorders) with behavioral challenges and some co-morbid mental health and trauma histories.
The behavior specialist writes, monitors, and reports on behavior support plans in OPWDD certified residences. The behavior specialist consults with nursing on psychotropic medication, PRN medication, and MIPS as needed. The behavior specialist is part of an interdisciplinary treatment team and regularly consults with clinical, residential, medical, and school staff.
In addition, the behavior specialist consults with the school team to implement similar supports during the school day consistent with NYSED regulations on school based behavior intervention plans. Technical support is available on NYSED requirements as the focus of the position remains the OPWDD certified homes in the program.
Requirements
-Master's degree in a field closely related to clinical or community psychology with experence in functional assessment techniques and behavior support plan development
-Minimum of five years of experience working directly with the I/DD population, including the development, implementation and monitoring of behavior support plans; and/or providing supervision and training to others in the implementation of behavior support plans, OR documentaion of OPWDD approved training or experience in functional assessment techniques and behavior support plan development.
- National Board certification in behavior analysis (BCBA) and a Master's degree in behavior analysis or a field closely related to clinical or community psychology that is approved by OPWDD preferred
