Job Description

We are seeking a Freight Broker Agent LTL/FTL to join our team! You will resolve customer questions and offer solutions to drive company revenue.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize preexisting book of business and industry contacts to provide immediate contribution in the form of sales revenue
  • Utilize TMS and back office program support to book shipments across all of the portfolio of service offerings that are sold to the customer base
  • Promote and sell the following freight services to existing and prospective customers: LTL, Full Truckload, Air/Expedite services, Flatbed, Trade Show, Drayage, Spot Quote, International (Canada/Mexico)
  • Pass any inquiries regarding Ocean transport to our Ocean Freight Forwarding department.
  • Identify potential accounts that would be a great fit for a freight forwarding partner by researching their structure and business model via Google, Social media outlets and personal network of industry professionals
  • Identify industrial parks and potential customers by driving your territory and in person cold calling/prospecting daily
  • Use established pricing set up with carrier partners in the TMS to identify the best service and pricing for each account. Identify special accessorial needs and communicate these needs to the carriers to see if we can accommodate these on an account specific and or broad brush pricing basis
  • Prospect and cold call 8-10 LTL accounts daily asking what their freight protfolio requires and how they currently handle this task. Touch on every service offering to identify opportunities and find out who decision makers are in all aspects of the business to set an appointment
  • Utilize personal and or company provided CRM to log sales opportunities and touches for effective communication and follow up to close accounts
  • Joint sales calls with the VP of sales and operations quarterly to identify what stage of the sales funnel we are in and identify what is needed to close them
  • Always mindful and aware of potential colleagues with similar industry experience that can be on-boarded to make an immediate impact to the business
  • Identify the needs for customer service or administrative support when the time comes and offer asssistance in hiring for the position
  • Ensure any and all contractual binding agreements such as the Broker-Carrier and Broker-Customer agreements are signed and agreed upon prior to booking any freight
  • Utilize back office platform to electronically store and retain invoices, BOL's, contracts, claims forms, etc. for every account maintained
  • Resolve customer inquiries and complaints regarding os&d issues, claims reduction and disputes, reweigh concerns, billing discrepancies, freight class adjustments and service performance results per carrier
  • Utilize knowledge of industry to educate accounts on basic problem solving such as freight packaging concerns, frieght classification, and reweigh processes to provide value and prevent unnecessary disputes
  • Set follow-up appointments to keep customers aware of latest developments
  • Utilize company provided as well as create sales material to present to customers
  • Establish accounts that can support another account executive for potential promotion opportunities into a corporate account and or manager role

​Qualifications:

  • Previous experience of more than 3 years in freight forwarding and LTL carrier sales is required
  • Established book of business and relationships within the industry are required
  • Sales management or leadership within the LTL industry is preferred
  • LTL industry experience is required
  • Knowledge and experience selling full truckload, flatbed, air/expedite services, international LTL is required
  • Familiarity with CRM platforms required
  • Ability to build rapport with clients required
  • Strong negotiation skills required
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication required
  • Experience using microsoft excel and TMS preferred
  • B2B sales experience in the freight industry is required. 5 plus years if preferred
