Collections Specialist

The Collections Specialist is responsible for collecting funds on delinquent merchant accounts and implementing procedures for the purpose of decreasing the company’s losses. This person will obtain payment or negotiate repayment arrangements with defaulted merchants. This role is also responsible for documenting and maintaining collections processes and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 2 years of experience in credit and collections in banking or finance; preferably in credit card industry. Associate’s degree preferred
  • Knowledge of MasterCard and Visa card regulations a plus
  • Knowledge of credit and/or collection policies, state and federal laws (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Consumer Credit Laws) concerning collection activities, accounts receivable, practices and systems
  • Ability to work independently, but with a team focus
  • Experience executing telephone collection best practices in a business-to-business environment
  • Ability to influence customers to act on agreed upon commitments
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Effective communications and interpersonal skills
  • Good organizational skills and detail orientation
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to use logic and reasoning to render sound business judgment
  • Good follow-through skills and ability to resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications

Essential Functions

  • Review fees related ACH (Automated Clearing House) Rejects data to determine action needed to recover funds.
  • Review status of delinquent accounts and initiate collection action by contacting principal or signer(s) of Merchant Credit Card Processing Agreement.
  • Prepare correspondence on delinquent accounts requiring special handling (i.e., demand letter mail merge, MATCH listing communication, etc.).
  • Research and review accounts daily to determine the reason for reject or insufficient funds, and work with outside collectors when needed
  • Assist in preparation of paperwork for litigation proceedings.
  • Generate statements of account.
  • Update delinquent account records, including received payment of overdue balance and any Return/Chargeback fees or other charges as appropriate.
  • Refer to the Risk Analysts accounts that require further action (i.e. Termination, MATCH listing etc.).
  • Update fraud alert database.
  • Distribute merchants support requests to analysts.
  • Review and distribute closure requests.
  • Conform with and abide by all federal, state, local regulations, EVO’s Corporate Policies and Procedures, and instructions.
  • Participate in any/all training and educational activities necessary to fulfill at least the minimum requirements specified in your department goals.
  • Practice and comply with all regulations promoting a safe and healthy work environment (i.e. OSHA).
  • Adhere to privacy; confidential, proprietary company policies and procedures (i.e. HIPAA).
