ESS is looking for a motivated Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to lead the EH&S activities for ESS. As the EH&S Specialist, you will implement, manage, and monitor safety programs, policies, and procedures that meet OSHA and other applicable requirements.

The Safety Specialist implements, manages, and monitors safety programs, policies and procedures that meet OSHA and other applicable requirements. Evaluates the organization’s procedures, facilities, and equipment by conducting inspections to identify unsafe conditions and to implement safeguards and solutions. Being a Safety Specialist ensures the organization complies with all current safety regulations and that all employees are aware of safety requirements and are prepared to follow safety procedures. Collects data and reports on all safety and accident events. Along with managing the Company Safety Program, the Specialist will be responsible for the Company’s Emergency Action Plan.


What you’ll do at ESS.

  • Create, implement, quantify, prioritize, and execute all EH&S procedures and programs. 
  • Participate in OSHA inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures.
  • Ensure compliance with all EH&S regulations including but not limited to OSHA, OR OSHA, EPA, OR DEQ.
  • Ensure compliance in all equipment installations, removals, or relocations in terms of EH&S. 
  • Conduct accident investigations. Maintain a safe and effective working environment.
  • Conduct internal EH&S compliance audits to verify that all required standards are consistently being applied.
  • Ensure all reporting, annual, semi-annual, and quarterly are done and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Address internal and external requests and assist management with technical expertise in regulatory compliance and environmental risk.
  • Manage the Emergency Action Plan and championing the response team.
  • Coordinate activities related to environmental permit applications and renewals. 
  • Partners with workers compensation administrator for claim reporting, injury investigation, claim management.[CM1] 
  • Provides EH&S trainings as required by local, state, and federal regulations including hazard communications, new employee safety orientation, hearing conservation, hazardous waste, fire extinguisher, CPR and first aid, and bloodborne pathogens.
  • Lead Safety Committee meetings.

What you bring to the table.

  • Minimum requirements:
  • Proven success in Environmental Health, Safety Management or Occupational Health. Experience with annual EH&S testing requirements.
  • Experience with company safety policies and coordinating with Human Resources to provide disciplinary action for violations.
  • Knowledge annual industrial hygiene monitoring.
  • Experience with EHS inspections and duties.
  • Experience leading Safety Committee meetings.
  • Ability to coordinate activities related to environmental permit applications and renewals.
  • Knowledge of activities associated with special EH&S projects.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
