Job Description

Title: Quality Assurance Specialist
Location: Lansing, IL


JOB SUMMARY:
Conducts activities to support the Quality Assurance program designed to ensure prevention of quality issues through standardization and maintenance of processes and procedures. Perform customer complaint investigations, determine root cause and implement sustainable countermeasures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Participate in the development of product and process specifications
Create and implement inspection and testing criteria or procedures for quality control
Coordinate the selection and implementation of quality control equipment such as inspection gauges
Review and update standard operating procedures or quality assurance manuals
Document the key risks and controls and the assessment of adequacy
Create, implement and maintaining comprehensive processes to improve clarity and consistency
Assists in scale up study, review and verification of new technology and equipment to predict and prevent quality issues prior to first production batch.
Identify critical points in the operations process and specify sampling procedures to be used at these points
Conduct experiments to identify the abnormal quality of products including raw materials and identify root cause of the problems.
Research identified discrepancies to determine the root cause and provide recommendation on how to mitigate the risk.
Works with technical and operations to resolve and prevent new product scale up issues.
Investigates customer issues related to quality concerns for all aspects of NPAA including paint, process, containers or delivery.
Determine short term immediate countermeasures and containment activity to:
o Get customer back to running their production line o Prevent the outflow of off quality to other customers.
o Contain off quality materials within NPAA facility and external warehouses.
Create RCA/investigation reports for internal and external customers
Analyze customer's complaints for patterns and trends and summarizing trends to make corrective action recommendations
Monitor performance of quality control systems to ensure effectiveness and efficiency
o Report and track any significant deviations from quality standards, identify and implement corrective actions for continuous improvement / PDCA projects.
Produce reports regarding nonconformance of products or processes, root cause analysis, or quality trends.
Participate in root cause analysis of off quality batches at NPAA.
Participate in meetings with customers or suppliers as representative of NPAA Quality Department.
Travel to customers or suppliers as Quality representation, as necessary.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR CERTIFICATION
Bachelor Degree preferably in a Technical Field or minimum of 4 years or equivalent experience.
Experience in ISO Quality systems
Desirable: Exposure to Lean Manufacturing

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Technical product knowledge to determine possible failure modes with materials.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure appropriate flow of information.
Ability to interact effectively with team members, co-workers, and managers. Ability to identify and define problems, collects and analyzes data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries.
Strong attention to detail.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to successful completion
Displays courtesy, tact and respect when dealing with others.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to meet strict deadlines using time management
Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
Manufacturing industry experience preferred
Quality experience preferred
Highly developed computer skills in Excel, Word, Access database, PowerPoint
SAP Experience preferred Ability to work off shift hours in order to meet the needs of the business.
Ability to conduct experiments

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision and the ability to focus WORK ENVIRONMENT: Employee experiences constant interruptions and inflexible deadlines. The noise-level in this environment is quiet to moderate. Duties are performed indoors. Out-of-town travel required as necessary for training and or to carry out duties and responsibilities.
