Every day, investment professionals around the world rely on EPFR for unique Fund Flows and Allocations data and insight, accessing global tracked mutual fund and ETF asset data from several thousand sources. EPFR helps financial professionals understand where money is moving, how fund managers are investing that money, and what impact those shifts are having on geographies, sectors, industries and securities.


To support the business in its next stage of growth, the decision has been taken to appoint a Chief Financial Officer, who will work closely with the CEO and the Board to help drive strategy execution, business performance and deliver on the investment thesis, to maximise shareholder value and achieve a successful exit.


The successful candidate will be a seasoned, highly commercial CFO with experience in high growth companies with revenues in excess of $30m+.


  • Reporting to the CEO, the CFO is a member of the Senior Management Team and sits on the Board of Directors.
  • During the carve-out from Informa, EPFR will continue to be supported by Informa’s Finance team through a comprehensive suite of Transitional Service Agreements (TSAs) until a fully standalone finance function has been established. As a standalone entity, it is anticipated that the finance team will be 3-4 FTEs.
  • The successful candidate will be based at EPFR’s headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts.

  • Provide effective strategic and commercial business partner support for the CEO and Senior Management Team, playing a key role in leading and delivering key business initiatives and the investment case to drive the optimal long-term commercial performance of the business.

  • Work with the Senior Management Team, investors and third-party advisors to deliver the value creation plan and achieve a successful exit in 3 – 5 years.
  • Act as a business partner and sounding board for the CEO, providing strategic and commercial business support as well as healthy challenge, when and where appropriate.
  • Overall leadership and governance of the finance function, in addition to oversight of other functional areas as required.
  • Significant contribution to the business strategy and operational initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain strong internal control and risk management systems across circa four legal entities worldwide.
  • Oversight of all matters related to compliance with regulatory, tax and legal requirements.
  • Manage the carve-out from Informa and build a high performing and well-resourced, fit-for-purpose Finance function and ensure the team has the appropriate level of skill, capability and experience. Maintain up-to-date technical accounting and financial systems/models/tools/ knowledge and training in the finance team.
  • Provision of clearly defined KPIs and balanced scorecards to measure performance against agreed objectives and targets to increase the overall level of professionalisation of the finance function.
  • Motivate and develop individuals within the finance team, focusing on the continual improvement of quality and implementation of best practices.
  • Work with the Senior Management Team, Investor and third-party advisors to drive and deliver key business initiatives and the investment plan. Manage the exit process in conjunction with the Senior Management Team, Investor and third-party advisors.
  • As the value creation plan is based on both organic and inorganic growth, the CFO will provide leadership of M&A activity including opportunity analysis, decision support and liaison with third parties.
  • Lead extensive financial planning and analysis including proactive KPI management.
  • Ensure fit-for-purpose and up-to-date accounting and financial reporting systems/models/tools are in place.
  • Ensure full, timely, accurate and insightful management information and reporting is in place, including:
  • Monthly board pack
  • Weekly/monthly management accounts
  • Revenue and margin/profitability analysis
  • Cost analysis
  • Capex analysis
  • Regular P&L/Balance Sheet/Cash Flow/Covenant forecasts
  • Business planning including financial modelling
  • All statutory, and where applicable, regulatory reporting
  • Lead and manage the annual budget and strategic plan process; be responsible for budget setting, cost management and forecasting


Seasoned CFO with experience working in businesses with revenues of over $30m.


Functional Skills

Qualified accountant with a proven track record of operational finance experience (FP&A, budgeting process and deliverables, cash flow forecasting, tax etc.) gained in international, multi-site businesses.


Sector Experience

Sector experience in tech-enabled services, B2B subscription services and/or data and analytics businesses with a strong understanding of the financial and commercial business drivers, particularly around commercial licensing.


Carve-out experience

Experience building and scaling an independent finance function with appropriate financial reporting systems and processes, KPIs and performance metrics, and team setup.


Team Leadership

A motivational leader who attracts and retains strong finance talent and creates high-performing teams.


M&A Experience

Commercially minded and KPI-driven, with a firm grasp on the business levers to drive top and bottom-line growth. Track record of working in creating significant shareholder value through organic and inorganic growth.


Commercial and Strategic Experience

Ability to assess, prioritize and interpret the numbers in a commercial manner and communicate analysis and recommendations to the Board and the business.


PE Experience

Demonstrable success in a PE-backed company, bringing, an understanding of the PE deal cycle, pace and value creation agenda (i.e. focus on cash and EBITDA; detailed management and board reporting; drive to exit; management of leverage; focus on margin/profitability; cost control; forecasting). Exit experience preferred.


International Experience

Culturally sensitive with a track record of managing teams across multiple geographies in businesses with a global customer base.

Work Location: Remote mainly within day trip of Boston to accommodate periodic in person meetings
