ECS is seeking a Chemical Engineering Technology Advisor to work in our Arlington, VA office. Please Note: This position is contingent upon additional funding.

Job Description:

ECS provides Systems Engineering and Technical Advising (SETA) support to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in a dynamic environment pursuing impactful and cutting-edge research. We're seeking candidates with a technical background in areas related to chemistry and chemical engineering to support development and management of current and planned programs at the intersection of clean energy technology. The successful candidate will have exceptional organizational skills and experience in project management.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide expertise on materials for clean energy and energy harvesting applications such as those used for gas adsorption and solid oxide fuel cells
  • Support further research solicitation and proposal evaluations activities associated with expeditionary energy
  • Lead and conduct periodic performer assessments to analyze program, technical and schedule risks; develop risk mitigation strategies
  • Provide technical evaluations and guidance on reports, briefings, and other performer communications
  • Program administration, including development of technical analyses, identification of technology gaps, technical risk management, project cost estimation, technology transfer efforts, as well as supporting technical reviews
  • Stakeholder engagement, including programs across the various DoD agencies and services.
  • Interagency engagement, including coordination activities with the DoD, DoE, and potentially international partnerships.
  • Attending and organizing program reviews/site visits/field tests.


Required Skills:
  • Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related technical field
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance
  • In-depth knowledge of synthetic material chemistry, thermal and pressure management
  • Knowledge of solid oxide fuel cell catalyst development, catalysis for fuel production and/or carbon capture methods that leverage catalysis
  • Experience in engineering, complex system design, and prototype development using industry-standard software tools
  • Excellent technical writing skills, including the ability to perform proof reading and quality control on technical documents and slides
  • Excellent communication skills - including the ability to clearly explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Project
  • Self-starter who is willing to work in an inter-disciplinary work environment
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to multi-task and respond to quick turn-around requests


Desired Skills:
  • Active DoD Secret clearance
  • Prior experience supporting DARPA and/or DoD R&D efforts
