JOB TITLE: Timber Pointe Outdoor Center Program Manager

DEPARTMENT: Timber Pointe Outdoor Center

POSITION TYPE: Full-Time

SUPERVISOR: Director of Timber Pointe Outdoor Center

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Program Specialist; Program Staff; Timber Pointe Interns; Timber Pointe Volunteers

SALARY: $32,000.00 and up, based on experience

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Program Manager is responsible for the development, coordination, and supervision of all programming at Timber Pointe Outdoor Center. Related programs will include specialized and inclusive residential camping and outdoor recreation opportunities for individuals with disabilities and the community at large. The Program Manager will also assist in preparing for and hosting facility rental and special use groups. The Program Manager is required to live onsite in the residence provided by Easterseals Central Illinois and agree to the terms of the Residency Agreement during peak camping season. This position is expected to work weekends and evenings throughout summer programming and be on-call for weekends/evenings as needed throughout the year.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a degree in Camping and Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Camp Administration, or a related field. An appropriate combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  2. CTRS/CCD/Teams Course certification preferred.
  3. Lifeguard certification preferred.
  4. A minimum of two years of successful experience working in a residential camp environment.
  5. Demonstrated experience in developing and facilitating recreation, outdoor education, and/or youth programming.
  6. Demonstrated experience working with individuals of all ages with a broad range of disabilities, preferred.
  7. Excellent written and oral communication skills and public speaking skills.
  8. Exceptional customer service.
  9. Valid driver’s license.
  10. Ability and willingness to maintain a flexible work schedule.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop, innovate, coordinate, manage and supervise developmentally appropriate, adaptive activities for all Timber Pointe Outdoor Center programs, addressing participants or user group’s goals, objectives, needs, and interests. Programs include, but are not limited to:
    1. residential camping
    2. day camping programs
    3. partner group and contract camp programs
    4. rental groups
    5. family camps
    6. special events, workshops, and retreats
    7. respite programs
    8. challenge course activities
  2. Develop and implement program schedules, assigning Program Staff to activities.
  3. Serve as a liaison to partner camp leadership during the planning and program implementation to ensure a cohesive and desired product, building positive relationships to promote collaborations and problem-solving between organizations.
  4. Utilize program evaluations and feedback to make and ensure continuous quality improvements.
  5. Inventory, purchase and organize program supplies, adhering to the program budget. Prepare and submit reports, budgets, and planning documents as required.
  6. Verify that all program areas are ready for use prior to a group’s arrival. Assist in logistics, maintenance, and upkeep of equipment, program areas, and physical resources.
  7. Assists in the recruitment and hiring of seasonal staff and volunteers, as well as the coordination, development, and implementation of seasonal staff training.
  8. Support the Camp Director in providing ongoing supervision and leadership to the seasonal camp staff and site.
    1. Manage the Program Specialist and Program Staffs’ daily operations and contribute to creating a working environment that adheres to Timber Pointe’s values of safety and accountability, trust and respect, person-centered focus, inclusivity, and collaboration.
    2. Provide ongoing professional development for all Program Staff, particularly in the area of rock wall/zip line/high ropes set-up, risk management, and activity facilitation.
  9. Ensure that ACA (American Camp Association) standards and all applicable state, legal, health, and safety regulations are being adhered to in regard to program areas.
    1. Monitor safety in all program areas, as well as general areas of camp
    2. Help maintain camp accreditation and certification standards in addition to individual staff certification requirements.
  10. Assist in the marketing of programs and recruitment of program participants, seeking out/speaking with schools, organizations, and community groups about Timber Pointe and its’ programming opportunities to generate increased year-round site use and participants, particularly in the area of outdoor/experiential education.
  11. Answer Timber Pointe telephone calls and emails and maintain general operations specific to the TPOC office.
  12. Serve as the “on-call” host for rental groups and guests, providing excellent hospitality and assisting with needs that may arise during their stay.
  13. Participate in and coordinate public relations and fundraising as appropriate.
  14. Serve as a team player, completing other duties as assigned.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Exceptional customer service and conflict resolution skills.
  2. Adequate knowledge of the American Camp Association Accreditation Standards.
  3. Basic personnel and facility management skills and principles as they relate to camping and outdoor recreation.
  4. Ability to develop and facilitate a broad range of specialized and inclusive outdoor-oriented programming for persons with and without disabilities, their families, and the community at large.
  5. Ability to work independently and as a team member, to make sound judgments/decisions, and to effectively prioritize work assignments.
  6. Advanced interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with people of various cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  7. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  8. Ability to manage multiple tasks and to be flexible with changes in project priorities.
  9. Demonstrated computer skills including word processing, data processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
  2. Ability to reach and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity, and the ability to communicate with others.
  3. Ability to independently navigate Timber Pointe’s 170-acre facility.
  4. Ability to proofread and check documents for accuracy on a daily basis.
  5. Ability to use a keyboard and video display terminal to retrieve and/or audit information on a daily basis.
  6. Ability to use a keyboard to enter and transform words or data on a daily basis.
  7. Ability to drive to all Easterseals centers and service sites within a 100-mile radius, as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, and the like.
  2. An outdoor camp environment with exposure to all types of weather and conditions including extreme heat and cold, snow, rain, etc.
  3. Exposure to pools, chemical rooms, woods, and other potentially hazardous areas.
  4. Required to work nights and weekends during peak camping season.
  5. Required to be on call and respond to emergencies during non-working hours.
