Dunson & Associates, Inc. is seeking Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent certification to support our client facilities. The qualified candidate will provide Phlebotomy and Laboratory services to the Health services Department of a Federal Correctional Center (FCC) on adult male inmates, in Hopewell, Virginia.
SCOPE OF WORK REQUIRMENT
The Employee shall be required to process 1) lab orders for urine analysis 2) Hemoccult tests and 3) all cultures in accordance with commercial practices in the area prepare and package specimens for shipping, and deliver subject shipping containers to the FCC front gate for shipment.
The Employee shall be required to perform basic blood draws for staff and inmates, spin down blood, prepare and package specimens for shipping, and deliver subject shipping containers to the FCC front gate for shipment. The Employee shall be required to draw blood open, semi-open and locked units, which will require direct contact with inmates.
The Employee shall be responsible for keeping the work area neatly organized, maintaining the needle/syringe inventory, properly documenting lab request logs, completing related paperwork and filing, and conducting routine equipment checks. The Employee will be required to collect data relating to laboratory efforts (usage, types of lab studies, prompt receipt of orders and timely return of results by our contract labs, etc.). Additionally, the Employee shall be required to scan and sort lab results to be distributed among the providers for review.
The Employee must be able to work effectively with both staff and inmates in the performance of contract services.
The above information provides a generalized description of some of the activities involved in the scope of work. The Employee must be able to adapt to newly establish policies and guidelines (i.e. Joint Commission (JCAHO), Bureau of Prisons (BOP), American Correctional Association (ACA), etc.) to the existing Medical Laboratory Technician program, as applicable, and help provide support to implement procedures accordingly.
WORK EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS AND ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:
Six months of practical experience as a Phlebotomy/Medical Laboratory Technician or equivalent. Six months of practical experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician. Graduation from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program of 2 years in length is preferred but not required. Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent certification preferred, but not required. Employee must show proof of practical experience, education and certification.
