Job Description

General Clerk

 

General Clerks provide customer service to a variety of public land users and visitors to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). General Clerks assist customers in researching BLM records and databases, maintain a professional appearance, and refer customers to other specialists when their questions require additional expertise.

 

Responsibilities include

 

Filing all documents and case files correctly, maintain data base accuracy, and follow detailed instructions without deviation.

 

Disclosing any private or non-public information and will be expected to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

 

Providing excellent customer service over the phone as well as to walk-in customers. Collaborates with BLM staff in a highly professional manner.

 

Assisting customers in researching BLM land and mineral title records, cadastral survey records, as well as internet-based lands and mineral databases.

 

Explaining Master Title Plats, Oil and Gas Plats, survey plats, and survey field notes.

 

Accepting over-the-counter filings and explains policies and regulations pertaining to oil and gas leasing, mining claim locations, realty, grazing, recreation, wilderness, wild horse and burro program.

 

Collecting payments for maps, brochures, duplication services, mining claims, and other PLIC products.

 

Following appropriate procedures for safeguarding federal funds in locking cash drawer and combination safe.

 

Entering cashiering data into Collections and Billing System.

 

Performing daily reconciliation of cash drawer, and transfers funds and documentation to collection officers.

 

Performing research and duplication to complete copy work requests as assigned by the PLIC team lead.

 

Responding to mail, telephone, and email inquiries regarding the public lands and resources.

 

Ensuring work products are accurate and meet the needs of the customer. Assists as needed in the inventory and distribution of 1:100,000 scale surface management maps.

 

Providing customer service functions for both internal and external customers related to the official case file records managed within Dockets.

 

Performing daily transfers of case file records among the Docket room, adjudication, land records staff, and the public visitors to the PLIC.

 

Examines incoming legal documents, combine with pertinent case records, and forward to appropriate specialist as required for next adjudicative action.

 

Responsible for ensuring data quality and accuracy for the Dockets Case File Barcode Data Base, properly filing correspondence, and that the official records are properly filed, maintained and accounted for.

 

Assist customers by researching and copying case file records, Serial Register Pages, Master Title Plats, and patent documents.

 

Respond to inquiries regarding mining claims, patents, leases, assignments, and unit agreements.

 

Perform queries in LR2000 to research records efficiently and perform specialized queries for the public.

 

Assists customers in researching BLM land and mineral title records, cadastral survey records, as well as internet-based lands and mineral databases.

General Clerks are often the first point of contact for BLM customers so they must uphold the highest standards of professional conduct and reflect the professionalism of our agency.

 

They must have the ability to learn simple computer systems, and to perform basic cashiering functions.

 

Education

• College degree or classes in Natural Resources is preferred, but not required.
