Job Title: Paralegal
Job Summary:
Under the direction of a practicing attorney, drafts, revises, reviews and responds to Federal and State investigations. Drafts licensure applications for LTC facilities, certification applications and pharmacy applications. Researches laws and regulations for various jurisdictions.
Additional duties include maintaining client extranet sites. Candidate must be detail-orientated and be able to prioritize and multitask. The candidate must exercise sound judgment, and possess strong administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills while managing a heavy workload.
Essential Functions:
· Obtains, reviews and analyzes documents, including medical records and financial records, tax and employment records, or any other relevant information.
· Assist with healthcare licensing, Medicare and Medicaid enrollment, corporate formation, fed and state tax and change of ownership for healthcare clients.
· Submit and track Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.
· Responsible for revising organizational charts, bylaws, and other corporate documents, as well as, preparing licensure and certification applications.
· Assist with trial preparation, hearings, depositions, and other proceedings.
· Coordinates with support services and clients, opposing law firms, and courts
· Researches and analyzes case issues, including medical research of facts, medical articles, and expert articles.
· Communicates issues with experts, and investigation and analysis of expert qualifications and experience, including prior transcripts, testimony and articles.
· Accurately and completely record billable time spent and tasks performed in accordance with firm policy and client-imposed billing protocols; enter and release time promptly in compliance with the firm’s announced deadlines.
Education and Work Qualifications:
· Bachelor's Degree preferred.
· Paralegal Certificate preferred.
· 5+ years’ experience as a Healthcare paralegal.
· Multi-state experience preferred.
· Experience with state healthcare facility licensing.
· Experience with Medicare and Medicaid enrollment.
· Knowledge of court and agency procedures and rules.
· Knowledge of document review/hosting databases; PACER; CompuLaw; Lexis/Nexis; Westlaw; Microsoft Word; Outlook; Excel; and PowerPoint.
· Ability to prioritize and organize assignments, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Physical and Mental Demands & Working Conditions:
· Must have the physical capacities associated with office work, including minor lifting and carrying, sitting at a computer, talking on the phone, and ability to move between floors and buildings.
· Although travel is very limited, the candidate needs to be able and willing to travel occasionally.
