Job Description


Job Summary 

Performance of a variety of imaging services under the direction of the Radiologist, and Department Director requiring independent judgment, initiative, and ingenuity. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.  The Radiologic Technologist works effectively with patients and patients’ families and maintains a cooperative relationship with interdepartmental personnel.



  1. Job Competency
  1. Performs routine diagnostic studies of acceptable technical quality for radiologist review and interpretations. Willing to be cross trained into different areas.
  2. Uses correct and visible markers and ensures patient ID is on all images.
  3. Assures all darkroom tasks are performed daily.
  4. Assures all charges are submitted and completed accurately.
  5. Asks and documents all women of child bearing age of the possibility of pregnancy.
  6. Ensures compliance of infection control policies and procedures at all times.
  7. Ensures compliance of radiation safety policies and procedures at all times.
  8. Ensures proper diagnosis and/or symptoms are on all preliminary forms.
  9. Performs venipuncture as indicated.
  10. Communicates explanation of exam to patient and/or family at all times and obtains consent forms as indicated.
  11. Assures sterile technique of self, patient, physician, and equipment as indicated.
  12. Ensures designated work area and equipment is clean at the end of each day.
  13. Orders, ensures receipt, and stocks x-ray supplies weekly.

  2. Actively seeks opportunities to improve skills as evidenced in the reduction of errors by the next review period.
  3. Suggests matters of concern for quality improvement during departmental meetings.
  4. Participates in work group efforts and data collection for quality improvement teams.

Qualifications and Education Requirements 


Education: Satisfactory completion of a formal Radiologic Technology program with a Degree of Certificate from an AMA approved program.

Registered Mammography Technologist

Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

Licensed be the Arkansas Department of Health.


Work Conditions

 Physical/Mental: Good physical health is required. Must be capable of effective interaction with all customers in a professional and courteous manner. Requires constant standing, walking, bending, and lifting of patients up to 100 pounds and medium weight objects. The sensory and communicative activities required for this position include feeling, hearing, seeing, smelling, and speaking.


Working Conditions: May be exposed to contagious diseases, chemical compounds, difficult patients, and radiation.

Safety : Incumbent must be attentive at all times to their own personal safety, as well as the safety of patients, their families, visitors and employees of Drew Memorial Hospital. Hazardous and/or potentially hazardous conditions are to be immediately reported to a member of management. In accordance with Act 593, this position is considered a “Safety Sensitive Position,” as it requires the incumbent to work with confidential information or documents that may pertain to criminal investigations. Working with hazardous or flammable materials, controlled substances, food, or medicine.
