The Biological Microsystems Group is seeking an experienced, multidisciplinary Mechanical Engineer with expertise in designing and fabricating first-of-a-kind systems supporting eventual commercialization. The candidate will perform a range of engineering tasks such as 3D mechanical design, analytical and numerical analysis of fluids, structures, and thermal performance, prototyping, and testing. The position requires a background in hands-on laboratory work and a willingness to work in the lab. Candidate shall be familiar with design for manufacturability at commercial scale, proper drawing detailing, and geometric tolerancing and dimensioning. The individual must thrive amidst an innovative and fast-paced multidisciplinary team comprising skills including microfabrication, molecular biology, and electrical engineering in order to solve complex problems.
+ MS / PhD or equivalent degree(s) in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics or related fields with 5+ years of experience.
+ Demonstrated technical expertise in the design, manufacturing and analysis of complex hardware systems.
+ Demonstrated ability to design for commercialization.
+ The ability to define and plan projects independently and solve complex problems with minimal supervision.
+ The ability to achieve goals on time and on budget.
+ The ability to communicate technical concepts effectively with engineers, managers, customers and other stakeholders of relevant disciplines. Flexibility to multi-task and adapt to evolving priorities will be required.
+ Experience in design and manufacture of medical disposables.
+ Experience with high volume manufacturing techniques (e.g., injection molding)
+ Experience with microfluidics, laboratory automation (e.g., LabVIEW, Arduino, Python), and statistical analysis.
+ Experience with numerical modeling tools (FEA, Matlab, or other simulation techniques)
+ Experience with 3D CAD modeling tools (e.g., Solidworks)
+ Experience in project planning and execution tools.
+ Experience in writing innovative R&D proposals to commercial and government sponsors.
+ Experience with working in a regulated environment (either direct GMP or technical support), ISO 9000, and/or familiarity with compliance and regulatory requirements of the FDA.
+ Experience in cellular bioprocessing.
