Job Title: Accountant/AP Manager

Placement Type: Direct Hire  

Salary: $65-$72K+ (Based on Experience)

Reports To: Finance Team Lead

Direct Reports: AP Clerks (3)

Location: Madison, WI (Possibility for Hybrid/Remote)

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm 


Position Overview  
Our Madison area business services client is looking for a full-time Accountant/AP Manager to join their team. The Accountant/AP Manager provides professional accounting activities in the areas of general ledger, financial statement reporting, taxes, and accounts payable to highly successful firms in the architectural, engineering and construction management industries. 


The Accountant/AP Manager is responsible for the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement analysis for the periodic general ledger closing cycle. This position prepares payroll tax, use tax, and various other tax returns. As AP Manager, this position is responsible for managing three accounts payable team members, reviewing AP transactions for accuracy, delegating tasks, and managing client and vendor issues as they arise.


Accountant Responsibilities

  • Analyze and adjust general ledger
  • Analyze period-end and year-end financials 
  • Assist with periodic payroll tax reporting
  • Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and periodic project audits
  • Prepare and submit periodic use tax, B&O tax, and commercial activity tax reports
  • Process cash receipts
  • Maintain required level of technical knowledge
  • Other projects as they arise


AP Manager Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee the management of three accounts payable team members 
  • Review accounts payable transactions for accuracy and post to the general ledger
  • Manage accounts payable email inbox and delegate tasks as necessary
  • Establish and maintain accounts payable policies and procedures
  • Review and approve new vendors and vendor changes

    • Education and Experience:
      • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and 2-3 years professional work experience or,
      • Associates degree in Accounting and 5 years professional work experience 
    • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
      • Exposure to general ledger accounting and financial statement reporting preferred 
      • Demonstrated initiative in mastering new technical areas quickly
      • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy
      • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to interact effectively with all levels throughout the company
      • Flexibility to work additional hours as needed
    • Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
      • Work is normally performed in a typical office environment
      • No or very limited physical effort is required
