Position: Administrative Assistant
Program: Community Engagement & Organizing
Reports to: Associate Director of Community Engagement & Organizing
Compensation: $22-25/hour commensurate with experience. Dolores Street Community Services (DSCS) nurtures individual wellness and cultivates collective power among low-income and immigrant communities to create a more just society. As a multi-issue, multi-strategy organization, we work to improve lives on an individual level as well as affect broader social change by engaging in advocacy and community organizing. We work together across programs to address homelessness, lack of affordable housing, and to support immigrant rights in order to meet the complex needs of our communities and collectively address the root causes of suffering and injustice.
Position Description:
The Community Engagement & Organizing division engages in advocacy and community organizing among the wide array of our members, residents, and clients and across our programs to address issues in the areas of land use, immigrant rights, worker's rights, and wellness. Our campaign priorities and demands are informed by the day-to-day work we engage in as service providers. In order to make sustainable long-term interventions in the quality of life of homeless, low income, working class, LBGT, mixed status, and communities of color-we must advocate for more than just resources.
The Community Engagement & Organizing program currently includes four sets of programs: the Workers' Rights program (which consists of the Day Laborers program and the Women's Collective), The Immigrant Rights and Community Empowerment program (which consists of the in-house legal representation program, San Francisco Immigrant Legal & Education Network, the San Francisco Rapid Response Network), and the Housing Rights program (which consists of the Mission Single-Room Occupancy Collaborative and the Tenant Counseling program).
This position has the objective of assisting in researching and organizing funding opportunities and processing administrative tasks such as data management for the programs in the Community Engagement & Organizing division.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work in collaboration with program managers, coordinators and directors of Community Engagement & Organizing programs
- Follow a work plan and develop professional skills
- Maintain organizational and administrative tools: calendars, reminders, databases, archives, etc.
- Research funding opportunities and supports the drafting of proposals
- Assist in data entry and reporting for contract management and client data into Grant Management System
- Grant Management and reporting for multiple grants including: processing and tracking invoices for subcontractors, compiling narrative reports, etc.
- Track and compile reports for services rendered by subcontractors.
- Translating notes from English to Spanish and vice versa.
- Research projects on tenant rights, immigrant rights, worker rights issues and other subjects as assigned.
- Logistics and communications, including sending email reminders, logistical set up of calls and meetings, securing interpretation services, etc.
- Perform other special projects and other duties as assigned.
Other Organizational Duties:
- Conduct business in accordance with the DSCS Employee Handbook, exercising sound judgment and serving the best interests of the agency and the community.
- Commit yourself to treating each community member with respect and dignity.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bilingual in spoken and written Spanish, REQUIRED
- Background in and passion for working with low-income and immigrant communities around issues of affordable housing, land use, and/or immigrant & worker rights; familiarity with these issues in the Mission District and San Francisco, highly desired.
- Strong commitment to serving low-income and underserved communities, with an ability to relate to and communicate with a broad range of clients and colleagues
- Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds including multiple-diagnosed low-income populations, people who are marginally housed, LGBTQ individuals, people of color and persons with disabilities
- Commitment to social justice issues, and familiarity with DSCS mission and organizational work
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritize work, required
- Must be well organized, efficient, highly motivated, and able to handle multiple tasks at once, work well under pressure, and take initiative.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient computer knowledge, ability to use Windows and Microsoft Office (particularly Excel), as well as proficiency with the internet
