Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE

 

The Assistant Wholesale Account Manager leads the company’s efforts to maintain and expand relationships with regionally assigned customers.  The role is responsible for achieving sales quotas along with assigned strategic account objectives.  The Junior Wholesale Account Manager represents a full range of Dole Fresh Vegetable products and services to assigned regional customers and wholesale division headquarters, while leading the customer account planning cycle and ensuring customer expectations are achieved or exceeded.  The Junior Wholesale Account Manager’s key focus is headquarters and key buying locations, while coordinating with broker’s and supervisors to execute joint business plans across various wholesale market independent customers.  This person will also support AWG, SpartanNash, and UNFI working with the Dole Wholesale Team leadership to penetrate all levels of the Wholesale business with sales administration, analytical, retail, food show, and sales support across headquarters and indirect customers throughout various wholesale divisions.  The overarching purpose is to support Dole’s plan to aggressively grow the wholesale business in the United States.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION:

 

  • Align and support our National Account and Regional Sales Managers through collaboration on key sales objectives.
  • Managing indirect group agreements, promotional planning, planogram development and strategic initiatives.
  • Supporting National Account lead on various functions in support of all key wholesale customers (AWG, SpartanNash, and UNFI).
  • Assist in the development of the sales, marketing, and category development plans for customers as needed.
  • Develop agreed upon objectives for broker sales teams around retail execution needs for all core customers.
  • Establishes productive, professional relationships with key personnel in assigned sales territory.
  • Coordinates the engagement of company personnel, including headquarter support, contracted services, and management resources, in order to achieve performance objectives and customer satisfaction.
  • Meets assigned targets for profitable sales volume and strategic sales objectives for assigned accounts.
  • Proactively assesses, clarifies, and validates customer opportunities on an ongoing basis.
  • Proactively leads joint Dole/Customer- strategic account planning process that develops mutual performance objectives, financial targets, and critical milestones for both short, and long range execution.
  • Negotiate contractual business agreements with assigned customers and legal authority within Dole to ensure mutual consent of sales volume performance and financial support obligations during contract/agreement period(s).
  • Meets budgeted profitability for assigned customers.
  • Achieves strategic customer objectives defined by annual budget process and individual Performance Development Plan.
  • Completes strategic customer account plans to meet company and management’s standards.
  • Completes required individual training and development plan within assigned time frame.
  • Maintains high customer satisfaction ratings that meet company standards.
  • Maintains strong customer, management and company communication/informational dialogue.
  • Achieves assigned sales quota in designated regional accounts.

 

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skill And Experience Requirements)

 

  • 2-5 years sales experience
  • Target locations for applicants: Chicago, Kansas City, Minneapolis, and Nashville 
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills, negotiation skills, decision making skills
  • Knowledge and ability to use basic software programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook. Cognos, syndicated data
  • Understanding of basics relative to production and quality control, L.A.M.P. understanding and utilization
  • Proficient in understanding and presenting category data via IRI or Nielsen.
  • Ability to develop and present annualized budgets based on the customers in the region analyzing current and future performance.

 

INTERNAL & EXTERNAL RELATIONS

 

External Interaction

  • Account Leadership/Buying Groups – selling the Dole concepts to secure and grow profitable business
  • Account Quality Control – discussing quality control issues of our products
  • Account Supply Chain – able to work with customer supply chain logistics departments to deal with all supply chain topics
  • Account AP Department – to ensure proper payment of Dole invoices per Dole payment terms
  • Account Negotiation Group – ability to have negotiation interaction of short and long term contracts.

Internal Interaction

  • Value Added Leadership – supporting various requests to drive the business across Canada.
  • Value Added Finance – discussions around payment terms, financial proforma models, customer profitability reports
  • Marketing – ability to discuss new item creation opportunities as well as programs to drive sales of established programs
  • Category Development – working collaboratively to understand sales trends of the customer and build strategic sales growth plans based on the analysis
  • Canadian Sales Team – supporting needs to build sales presentations and analysis review as needed.
  • Supply Chain – establish supply chain logistic parameters that meet the standards of Dole and the customer
  • Quality Control – reporting of quality or food safety issues between the customer and Dole

  

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

 

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree in Business Management/Sales or a minimum of 5 years business management experience
