Job Description

District 19 Community Services Board is offering an exciting full-time position as Human Resources Generalist I. This position will be primarily located at our20 W. Bank Street location in Petersburg, VA., but will be responsible fortravel to other locations across our catchment area as needed.  This position is responsible for completing a variety of tasks to support  the daily operations of the Human Resources department.  Essential job duties of this position include:  recruitment and new hire processing, benefits processing, data reporting, and processing of VRS, FMLA, ADA, STD, and Worker’s Comp.  Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and acting in a professional and courteous manner while multi-tasking. This position requires ability to work independently and productively with minimum supervision. This position requires a strong team player with the ability to easily transition between tasks and responsibilities, fill in where needed within the HR program and the ability to positively engage with employees, community members, agency consumers, stakeholders, and anyone contacting HR.

Minimum of Associates Degree in  Human Resources, Business, or other related field. At least two years experience working in Human Resources or closely related field.  Knowledge of trends, regulatory policies, and basic understanding of employment process and practice in Human Resources.  Knowledge of EEOC, ADA and employment laws. Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. Excellent organizational skills, multi-tasking skills, and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple projects, meet and work effectively under time and resource constraints. * Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team. * Ability to connect with people, maintain trust, and navigate sensitive issues with employees. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)

​Valid VA Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.  Must obtain VA Notary certification within 120 days of hire.  

Must be able to sit at a desk/computer for prolonged period of time.  Ability to lift files/boxes up to 25 lbs.

​Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Position is a grade 209. The minimum starting salary is $47,457.00.

Excellent benefits include sick and annual leave and Virginia Retirement System.

Position requires pre-employment extensive background check and drug screening, to include a driver's license report if applicable.
