The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish (St. Louis Catholic Church and Bishop Louis Reicher Catholic School - Waco, Texas) which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ's mission present and enduring in the parish. To fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or laypeople). He shares with them his mission entrusts various responsibilities to them and expects that they accomplish the mission according to the parish's core values.

Positions employed at St. Louis Catholic Church and Bishop Louis Reicher Catholic School - Waco, Texas help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in, the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.

Job Summary:

The Facilities Director provides work direction, supervision, and assistance for maintenance personnel involved in the maintenance and repair work of parish facilities, school facilities, grounds, and equipment. The Facilities Director reports directly to the Head of Operations and collaborates with the members of the school administration and parish staff to ensure maximum efficiency in the use of parish resources.

Essential Job Duties:
  • Assures security and fire alarm systems are kept in good working order.
  • Maintains security of grounds and all buildings during working hours and is on call 24 hours for facilities emergencies and security issues.
  • Analyzes and solves technical maintenance problems.
  • Directs work involved in operating and maintaining heating and cooling systems and ensures that regular maintenance is performed at appropriate times, including scheduled maintenance as well as filter changes
  • Maintains church and school vehicles.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of the items most often needed during the course of regular maintenance of all facilities, including paper products, tools, and hardware.
  • Maintains a neat, orderly work area including offices and big and small maintenance shops.
  • Along with Maintenance Specialists, performs general maintenance, cleaning, and repairs for facilities, equipment, and grounds.
  • Utilizes knowledge of fundamental mechanical, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, or heating and cooling skills in performing assignments.
  • Operates common hand or power tools.
  • In consultation with the Pastor, head of school, and the permission of the Head of Operations, may at times arrange contracts for some vendor/outside services, and oversee contractor jobs through to satisfactory completion.
  • Serves as project manager for small to midsized facilities improvement projects when assigned by pastor or head of school
  • Directs and assists with seasonal decorations in the church, parish activity center, and parish grounds.
  • Is on call 24 hours for facility emergencies and security issues.
  • Performs other related tasks and attends meetings as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the structure and basic teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Skill in verbal and non-verbal communication.
  • Ability to operate word-processing software.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and work effectively with staff, clergy, religious, and laity.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and utilize effective time management techniques
  • Ability to follow instructions furnished in verbal or written for
  • Ability to proficiently communicate in English (conversing, reading, and writing).

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Training:
  • High School Diploma

  • experience in several maintenance disciplines (HVAC, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing).

  • Valid Texas driver's license
  • Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.
