Ministerial Character:

The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish (St. Joseph Catholic Church, Manor, Texas) which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ's mission present and enduring in the parish. To fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He entrusts various responsibilities to them.


Positions employed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manor, Texas help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Roman Catholic Church.


Primary Responsibility:

The Communications Coordinator is responsible for implementing effective communications in support of the mission and vision of St. Joseph Catholic Church through various media both within the parish community and externally to the broader community. Primary responsibilities to accomplish this goal include planning, designing, and executing digital and print content. This is a part-time position. Practicing Catholic preferred.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, design, and execute digital and print content to be consistent across the bulletin, flyers, e-weekly, website, and social media accounts
  • Bulletin: Use Microsoft Publisher software to create weekly church bulletin by publication deadline
  • E-Weekly: Create e-weekly email to send to all parishioners
  • Website: Publishing current content, maintaining continuity of themes, designing layout, streamlining navigation, and increasing online presence
  • Social Media: Management of social media such as Facebook and myParish app, coordination of electronic media, and promotion of parish podcast
  • Announcements: Prepare written announcements for weekend Masses
  • Press Releases: Promote parish events through press releases to the Diocese of Austin, Catholic Spirit, and other pertinent news outlets.
  • Bulletin Boards: Update and maintain the campus bulletin boards with print media
  • Kiosks: Maintain the print media informational kiosks in the church and in the office
  • Print Media: Coordinate, create and update all parish print media such as the Welcome Packet, ministry trifolds, banners, posters, signs, and event/informational flyers
  • Brand Recognition: Update and/or refresh parish logo, letterhead, bulletin cover and other parish identifiers
  • Photography/Videography:
    • Take photos and create videos to enhance print and digital communication
    • Management of volunteers for photography and videography of select events
    • Edit, organize, and manage digital photo library for public to view (Google Photos or similar planform such as Flickr) and for archival purposes
  • Pictorial Directory: Coordinate new pictorial directory for parish
  • Parish History: Collect and chronicle parish history through photographs, articles, and other sources
  • Vision and Mission: Appropriately display pictures and texts in public places to promote the vision and mission of the parish
  • Other tasks as assigned
  • Work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with the Church Community.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of computer software programs related to print publications, graphics and design, especially Microsoft Publisher, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Elements (video editing), and Canva
  • Superior communication skills in writing and editing
  • Basic understanding of website design, as well as publishing and design software
  • Skilled in photography and/or videography
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Responsible, able to maintain confidentiality and be positive in outlook

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education and Trainings: High school diploma or equivalent required, College degree preferred
  • Experience: 3-5 years relevant work experience preferred
  • Language: Bilingual Fluently (Reading, Writing and Speaking) in English and Spanish required
  • Catholic Requirement: Preferable.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must be certified in Diocese of Austin Virtus within 90 days of employment and maintain certification throughout the employment period.

Working Conditions:

  • All members of Operations team must be ready to serve in the various positions.
  • The parish is an at-will employer.
  • All buildings and vehicles owned by the parish are tobacco free.
  • Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.
  • Working on weekends, evenings and some holidays may be required.
  • Will be exposed to Roman Catholic Christian prayer, liturgical celebrations, conduct and speech.
  • Will be required to adhere to established dress code and conduct standards.
  • Traveling outside the parish to various events may be required. Use of personal vehicle to attend to parish obligations required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear and to climb stairs and ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Ability to see close and far, color, depth, peripheral and to adjust focus.
  • Ability to push, lift and carry weights up to 50 pounds; and
  • Ability to handle a varied work environment and an abundance of personalities and situations.
  • Maximum hours per week 20.

Working Conditions:

  • All employees of Joseph Catholic Church are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the Church.
  • Joseph Catholic Church is an at-will employer, which means employment may be terminated by the employee or employer with or without notice at any time.

  • Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.
  • Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations.
  • Will be required to adhere to established codes and conduct standards, including but not limited to EIM standards of conduct in the workplace and outside of the workplace.
  • May be required to use personal vehicles to drive to other parishes or other off-site locations.
  • Traveling within and outside the parish to meetings and other events may be required, and travel may require overnight lodging.
  • Will be required to conform personal and professional activities to be consistent with and supportive of the mission, purpose, and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
