Responsibilities In keeping with Dignity Health and French Hospital Medical Center's healthcare philosophy, the Senior Assistant Nurse Manager of Surgical Services has responsibility and accountability for the Surgery Unit, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Sterile Processing, and other Dignity Health Initiatives as directed by the department Director or delegate. Maintains department policies and procedures in compliance with State and Federal laws and regulatory agencies. Coordinates, implements and improves the quality of care to patients of all ages.
Manages and directs staff development, staff participation and department operations in coordination with other departments and physicians and surgeons. Practices effective personnel management in motivating and developing surgical services staff. Establishes goals and objectives, participates in intra and interdepartmental process improvements.
Provides leadership and departmental direction and performs all duties using independent judgment, initiative and follow through. Responsible for fiscal goals of the department including staffing, productivity, cost containment, and other expenses and business development of the department. Qualifications Direct OR experience- scrubbing or circulating.
Expert understanding of perioperative operations and clinical nursing. Experience with Joint Commission, CMS and DPHS surveys and standards Registered Nurse with a minimum of four (4) years of direct OR experience. Minimum of one (1) year experience as an Assistant Nurse Manager, or in an equivalent management capacity.
Experience with Joint Commission, CMS and DPHS surveys and standards Competent in Operating room. Training in circulating, scrubbing or RNFA 4 years of direct OR experience in an acute care setting. Or 3 years of Surgical Center experience if Full-Time RN Hospital OR experience is in the last 2 years.
RNFA or CNOR Able to work collaboratively with physicians and surgeons. Experience with Performance/Quality improvement. Develops, revises and ensures compliance with hospital/departmental policies/procedures, standards of patient care and professional practice acts.
Serves as a role model by providing leadership expertise and serves as a clinical resource for assigned areas and for other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team. Contributes to the quality of patient care standards and outcomes. Conducts leadership rounding and coaching.
Utilizes and promotes the use of Service Excellence Principles and AIDET as part of daily practices. Utilizes competency and leadership tools to document results. Assures continuity of care by working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary health care team, patient, family and significant others.
Assess and evaluates the clinical plan of care across the continuum. Participates in hiring, coaching, counseling, and terminations for assigned areas of responsibility. Participates in the annual evaluation of the department and leadership direction in collaboration with the Department Director or delegate.
Monitors patient care outcomes to ensure optimum utilization of Quality Improvement methodology, while maximizing utilization of all available resources. Supports quality improvement and utilization while balancing financial resources to achieve quality of care. Documents results as directed by department director.
Participates in hospital and nursing committees and meetings as directed. Promotes compliance with hospital/departmental legal, safety, environmental, education, infection control and regulatory agency standards. Promotes staffing compliance and delivery of care, matching staff assignments with patient care needs.
Demonstrates compliance and understanding of Human Resource policies, procedures and programs. Assists Department Director to ensure fiscal responsibility and budget accountability. Monitors staffing to achieve productivity standards, making adjustments throughout the shift.
Promotes stewardship by identifying potential savings in staffing/materials usage and brings to director's attention. Contributes to setting and achieving departmental goals and objectives that are consistent with the organization?s strategic business plan. Provides accurate and timely staff schedules.
Contributes to the education of new staff ensuring timely completion of orientation, evaluation of department/role competencies, and provides ongoing feedback and support to new employees.
