About the Position
The Staff Accountant is a key position within Digital Promise’s Finance and Operations Team, reporting to the Comptroller. The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining and controlling general ledger accounts, recording financial transactions of the organization, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and providing thorough review of financial records. This position has primary responsibility for commercial invoicing and billing and must also be familiar with OMB and other grant reporting requirements for proper approval and allocation of expenses and payroll. 

Responsibilities

  • Key member in the monthly close process. Prepares and imports journal entries with related, appropriate support for review. 

  • Ensures entries are completed in accordance with established deadlines.

  • Prepare account reconciliations in a timely manner

  • Prepare monthly journal entries in a timely manner

  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations and work with staff on outstanding items

  • Responsible for the billing of all exchange contracts

  • Responsible for preparing monthly draw down back up on federal expenditures

  • Prepare monthly salary allocations across organizational programs

  • Cross trains with other finance/accounting positions to assist, as needed, including payroll and accounts payable.

  • May coordinate work output of other staff.

  • Assist with the preparation for audits and ensure appropriate documentation of policies and procedures. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required.

  • 2 years of related accounting experience plus additional experience, nonprofit accounting experience preferred

  • Demonstrated theoretical and practical knowledge of accounting concepts, practices and procedures;

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and manage competing tasks, deadlines, requirements, and decisions. 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 

  • A passion for education, a team mentality, creativity, and a positive “can-do” “yes-and” spirit.

Compensation
Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience.
