Desert Tech, a rapidly growing international manufacturer of firearms has an opening for a Production Engineer and Automation Specialist

The Primary responsibilities are in strategizing on maximizing productivity to deliver efficient results that would drive revenues and increase profitability. They also identify areas of improvement with the manufacturing processes and escalate best practices for improvement. A production engineer must be knowledgeable about technological advancements and incorporate ideas to minimize costs without sacrificing the quality of services. They also need to be someone who develops and implements Manufacturing Plans for Lathes, Mills and Screw Machines with Gibbs Programming. (Knowing Espirit would be handy.) We are also looking for an emphasis in Production Automation specifically through robotics.

 

Desert Tech is seeking a qualified individual to join us on our Production Development Team.

The responsibilities of this position include designing and implementing newly automated development setups that can be handed off to the production team. It will also include programming of Gibbs software for multi axis Mori Seiki, Okuma, Haas and Nakamura machines. The individual must be able to create databases, edit Post Processors, troubleshoot multi-axis equipment, set up and control database tool libraries in a server database, and implement robotics and other automation processes. This person will provide lead responsibilities to the Machine Shop, Roto Drill and Laser; and will also assist R&D in the new release projects.

 


The Primary Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Developing Manufacturing plans for Current and New Parts to Run in the most Efficient manner.
  • Optimizing current Manufacturing plans for parts to run in the most efficient manner.
  • Planning and optimizing our cells for the machine to be run with minimal operators and setups.
  • Implementing automation and Robotics into our Current and new Processes
  • Programming, Developing, Creating, and setting up first time Automated MFG Processes for CNC Machining Ops.
  • Creates and manages new and updated existing programs according to standard practice instructions.
  • Implements and works with robotics and other forms of automation used in CNC Machining.
  • Studies blue prints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specification or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances, sequence of operations, and set up requirements.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Verifies availability of tooling and fixtures required by CNC programs.  Initiates requests for purchased and manufactured tooling and fixtures.  Confers with purchasing and the tool and die supervisor on scheduling and receiving tooling and fixtures.
  • Completes all required work order reporting and documentation.
  • Confers with other engineers, production personnel or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Creates new item master routings for machined items or other new items requiring CNC programming for Desert Tech.
  • Audits work orders for modified work order routings, item master routings, routing changes, saw lengths and program numbers.
  • Interacts with all areas of operations, material management, engineering, maintenance, tool and die and quality assurance.
  • Adheres to safety practices and procedures. 
  • Follows procedures as defined by Desert Tech policies, procedures and ISO9001 requirements.

 

Required:

  • Engineering Degree Required in Mechanical, MFG, or Process Engineering with an emphasis (or experience) in Robotics and Automation for CNC Machining.
  • Tech School certification in programming and machining preferred
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow instructions, work orders and engineered drawings.
  • Knowledge and Experience in Manufacturing Processes (Machine Setups, Usage, Optimizations, etc.)
  • Five plus years’ experience in development setups in a CNC Machine Shop. 
  • Five plus years’ experience in Robotics and Automation in a CNC Machine Shop.
  • Ten years’ experience programming CNC machinery.
  • Black belt in lean manufacturing.
