Under minimum supervision, evaluates shop workflow, ensures the timely procurement of appropriate parts and equipment. Organizes maintenance shop activities and prioritizes work in cooperation with the Fleet Manager and Master Technician. Coordinates with the Master Technician to acquire the required and correct parts for the work in process, and assists in the distribution of parts to technicians to expedite work flow. Ascertains type of part or service needed, and procures appropriate parts through contracts and business relationships. Order parts off of estimates using parts ordering guidelines, receive and inventory parts from vendors, catalog, organize and store parts, performs on-going inventories in warehouse and maintains appropriate par levels of parts through a stock rotation program. Coordinates with technicians on special order parts tracking, creates and tracks return authorizations for incorrect or damaged parts received, warranty parts returned, and maintains accurate records of purchases, parts received and used. Coordinates subcontract vendors and services to assist in expediting work flow. Assists Master Technician with maintenance and repair quality control program, and provides technical support technicians. Evaluates and recommends parts and services and prepares repair service quote estimates. Assists with routine maintenance and housekeeping, and the training of technicians as necessary.
Education 1. High school diploma or GED required. 2. Preferred vocational/technical training in mechanics and automotive/mechanical maintenance.
Experience 1. Five (5) years previous experience and/or training involving mechanics, automotive/mechanical maintenance, parts and/or service writing required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1. Knowledge of gasoline and diesel combustion engines, parts, and systems, including their design, users, repair and maintenance and major overhaul of diesel, gasoline, electric, and alternate fuel systems. 2. Knowledge of fuel systems, starting and charging, brakes, suspension, and drivetrains (including automatic transmissions, transfer cases, differentials). 3. Knowledge of procedures for operating motor vehicles including cars and trucks. 4. Knowledge of Ambulance systems, including oxygen delivery systems, suction, inverters, lighting, AC and DC electrical circuitry, seating, safety equipment, drivability, HVAC requirements, and stretcher systems. 5. Knowledge of heating, cooling, air conditioning, and exhaust systems sufficient to be able to perform diagnosis and maintenance. 6. Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary safety precautions sufficient to be able to establish a safe work environment for self and others. 7. Skill in diagnosing and maintaining electronic and electrical systems. 8. Skill in diagnosing and maintaining, and repairing mechanical hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. 9. Skill in diagnosing and recommending maintenance of various types of transmissions and related components. 10. Skill in recognizing non-standardized situations and preparing recommendations for problem resolution. 11. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with vendors, partners and other employees. 12. Ability to work and communicate with customers to satisfy their expectations. 13. Ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions. 14. Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information. 15. Ability to perform basic math and the ability to interpret graphs. 16. Ability to communicate with supervisor, employees, other divisions, vendors/suppliers, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. 17. Ability to function in a team-oriented environment.
Computers and Technology 1. Ability to operate a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; utilizes work order system, diagnostics, Internet, e-mail, or other programs. 2. Competency with Microsoft Office Suite software programs.
Certificates, Licenses and Registration 1. Successful completion and certification in Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification Commission Ambulance Technician Exams in: Maintenance, Inspection, and Testing of Ambulances; Design & Performance Standards of Ambulances; Ambulance Cab, Chassis, and Powertrain are required. 2. Possession of a valid and unrestricted Colorado Class "R" Driver's License.
