Who You Are
We are looking for a motivated and conscientious Director of Organizational Planning and Governance who is ready to jump in and take the lead on multiple organizational planning and governance operations projects. To succeed in this role, you should be equally strong in organizing and managing projects, bringing both strong collaboration and effective communication skills. You will need business acumen and strategic thinking, along with initiative and superb problem-solving skills. You should be comfortable working on projects that are well-defined, as well as ones with ambiguity or limited direction. This position is primarily remote, but you may be expected to come into our Chicago office for meetings or other events on occasion with notice.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Seven to ten years of relevant experience in organizational planning or board governance, including experience in the not-for-profit sector
- Advanced technology skills in Microsoft 365, including MS Teams

Detailed Job Description
Organizational Planning (60%)- Coordinates and supports the planning, implementation, reporting and ongoing evaluation of the organization’s strategic plan
- Facilitates cross-departmental communication and information sharing to advance organizational and strategic planning goals
- In partnership with the Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer, develops and manages strategic plan dashboard for internal and board reporting
- Serves as Project Manager for priority or select organizational projects, including process transition and change management initiatives
- Updates and issues organizational monitoring report with input from across the organization
- Coordinates ownership of and manages progress on key/new initiatives identified in leadership, board or strategic discussions
- Serves on team, possibly leading the team, to develop document/information management system to increase collaboration opportunities and increase information sharing
- Assesses current project planning processes to identify opportunities for improvement
- Performs other duties as assigned
Governance Operations (40%)
- Manage, with the CEO, the comprehensive review of DANB and DALE Foundation governance document review
- Manage the updates and compliance of DANB and the DALE Foundation’s Bylaws and organizational governing documents, including Policy Manual
- Oversee board and officer nomination timeline and process for both DANB and the DALE Foundation
- Draft and process meeting minutes for DANB Board of Directors’ and the DALE Foundation Board of Trustees’ meetings, and draft summaries or minutes for Board committees or task forces to which the CEO is staff liaison
- Serve as Staff Liaison on DANB Governance Committee and associated DALE Foundation Bylaws and Nominating Committees
- Manage Board Assessment/Evaluation Process
- Develop and manage board and committee member database/matrix

Education & Qualifications:

Physical Demands:
Required to sit for extended periods of time; may need to walk or stand in the course of work as well as light (10-30lbs) to medium (30-40lbs) levels of lifting of supplies and/or equipment
Work Environment:
Work performed in an office environment, either onsite or offsite; occasional travel required
