Job Summary
Dennis Group Structural Engineers ensure structures are durable and safe for our industrial projects that involve designing and building food and beverage process facilities. Our structural engineers have strong technical, analytical, design, mathematical, and problem-solving skills. The role is key in the design, permitting, and providing expertise in strength, stability, and stresses for various structures of our construction of new processing facilities and alterations to existing facilities. - The approximate base salary range is $100,000 - $150,000 (Incumbent's final compensation is determined on experience, knowledge, abilities, etc.).

Job Summary
Dennis Group Structural Engineers ensure structures are durable and safe for our industrial projects that involve designing and building food and beverage process facilities. Our structural engineers have strong technical, analytical, design, mathematical, and problem-solving skills. The role is key in the design, permitting, and providing expertise in strength, stability, and stresses for various structures of our construction of new processing facilities and alterations to existing facilities. Members of our structural department have responsibilities that include, but not be limited to:
Responsibilities
- Work independently for simple to complex projects
- Collaboratively uses judgement to determine adaptions in methods for non-routine aspects of assignments.
- Applying extensive and diverse knowledge of principles and practices for a wide range of materials and construction techniques.
- Performing hand calculations and creating computer analysis models for structural design tasks.
- Determine the correct building code
- Locate any local or site-specific amendments to the building code
- Document gravity design loads, wind design loads, and seismic design loads
- Work with and design common structural framing systems (steel, composite steel, joists)
- Work with and design common & Uncommon foundations systems (Spread footings, drilled piers)
- Work with and design common façade systems (IMP, precast, masonry)
- Work with and design common lateral systems (Shear walls, braced frames, moment frames)
- Design uncommon later systems (RBS, eccentric braced frames, etc.)
- Implement reinforcing methods for foundations
- Layout preliminary column grid
- Implement reinforcing methods for steel wide flange steel beams
- Estimate foundation types & sizes and preliminary steel sizes
- Estimate unit costs & project budget for structural components
- Coordinating structural work with other disciplines
- Review geotechnical reports
- Deign mat slabs for process tanks, vessels, and silos
- Design pipe bridges
- Perform take offs from structural plans
- Create preliminary budget packages
- Prepare RFP for sub-consultants
- Structure RFQs
- Contact potential bidders for preliminary budget estimates
- Review complex submittals, respond to RFIs
- Large-scale project primary client technical contact
- Field measure existing structures to gather necessary information
- Drafting sketches, contract drawings, and specifications using AutoCAD.
- Reviewing project documentation for conformity and quality assurance.
- Reviewing shop drawings, submittals, and calculations
- Estimating construction costs with quantity take offs and historic costs
- Conducting field inspections & condition assessments and prepare reports
- Researching structural engineering materials and best practices
- Supporting talent growth within our organization
- Provide coaching and/or mentoring to a subordinate group when directed by supervisor.
Required Education Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
- 8-11 years of relevant structural experience (industrial and commercial building structure)
- 8-11 years of experience performing calculations, creating analysis models for structural designs
- 8-11 years of experience in structural and concrete drafting sketches, contract drawings, and specifications using AutoCAD and Revit
- RAM Structural system and RAM Elements knowledge or experience is a plus
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
- Detailed planning and organization skills.
- Experience with structural analysis software
- Ability to travel to project sites as needed (15 days a year)

- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift-up to 15 pounds at times.
