Job Description


Responsible for the development, maintenance and delivery of internal, external, and executive communications strategies and initiatives that help the company meet its business goals and enhance the company's brand and reputation. Successful implementation of these responsibilities will result in sustained and significantly improved employee and culture communications, innovation communications, public relations, and reputation management for PPL Electric Utilities. In collaboration with the team, help to shape the thinking for PPL Electric Utilities senior leaders through data, trends and deep understanding of the changing business landscape.


Primary Responsibilities

Manage the development, planning, implementation, and delivery of communications as part of a strategic and integrated program that enhances corporate reputation and enables attainment of company goals.

Partner with business leadership to ensure successful implementation of internal communications to help connect employees to business priorities.

Work across functions to embed innovation, customer, commercial and operational success stories in broader communications campaigns and initiatives.

Analyze and measure results and adjust strategy / execution as appropriate.

 Support the development, maintenance and delivery of digital communications and social media strategy across traditional and online media platforms.

 Motivate and inform company employees through effective management, planning, implementation, and delivery of employee communications.

Develop effective corporate messaging based on a thorough understanding of business operations and goals, and consistently use this messaging across all platforms to advance the interest of the company.

Support relationships with the news media and including media relations activities to minimize the impact of negative news and enhance the impact of positive news. Serve as one of the utility’s spokespersons.

Manage specific projects, closely collaborating with others throughout the company, to effectively deliver communications on time and on budget.Build and maintain productive relationships with senior executives, company management, colleagues, and employees to improve internal and external communications on behalf of the company.

Plan, author, provide content, edit, and deploy communications for a variety of internal and external communications channels.

Be a superb writer -- fast and accurate -- and be able to apply that skill to every medium we use, including publications, Intranet, Internet, advertising, social media, and others.

 Have excellent presentation skills, and be able to persuade, and to diplomatically disagree, when necessary, to advance the company's public relations interests. Be prepared to prove your writing, communications, and marketing planning skills.

Serve on the emergency on-call rotation and be prepared to manage and support crisis communications activities.


Position Requirements (Required Skills): 

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in marketing communications, journalism, communications, marketing or relevant field OR comparable work experience

At least five years' work in a similar integrated communications role in a corporate setting or serving the same function for clients in an agency setting

Ideal candidates will be from a regulated industry. Utility, Finance, Pharma, etc.

Advanced proficiency in personal computing skills

Working knowledge of web and social media skills Knowledge of PPL and/or the utility industry Demonstrated leadership skills.

Ability to work cooperatively and effectively as part of a team; a strong focus on constructive culture and appropriate behaviors.

Demonstrate strategic capability of core storytelling digital communications experience skills including outstanding writing ability.

Excellent interpersonal and oral communications skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in journalism, communications, marketing communications, marketing or relevant field

10+ years' experience in corporate or business communications

Leadership experience

Management of an internal communications environment including technology such as Social Chorus, Dynamic Signal or other internal communications platform
