### Summary
**About the Position:** This position is located at Fort Belvoir
Community Hospital in the Family Medicine Clinic. Normal Tour of
Duty hours are 0730-1630 Monday-Friday.

### Responsibilities
- Perform examinations and assessment of patients.
- Obtain and record health history for patients.
- Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Assess and document patient responses to medications
administered.
- Instruct patient and family members regarding prescribed
medications, treatment plans, and/or surgical or diagnostic
procedures.
- Present patient cases during patient rounds.
- Prescribe a variety of medications to patient.

### Conditions of Employment
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and
maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security
investigation or access for the duration of employment. A
background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis

emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to
work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission
operations.
- This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life
Support (BLS) certification.
- This position requires the incumbent to go through a Childcare
Background Check (due to regular contact with children or
adolescents).
### Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience
requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid
experience, including volunteer work done through National Service
programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations
(e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community;
student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying
experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly
describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education,
your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

**Basic Requirements:**
**Education:** A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree,
associate's degree, or diploma from an accredited professional
nursing educational program is required. This education must have
been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education,
Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs,
Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting
body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the
degree was obtained. **You must attach a copy of you transcripts
with your application package.
APN Advanced Education:** Applicants must possess a graduate or
higher level Nurse Practitioner degree from an accredited
educational program. **You must attach a copy of your transcripts
with your application package.**
**Foreign Nursing Schools:** An official certification from the
Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for
individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. You must
submit a copy of your certification with your application package.
**Selective Placement Factor:** Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
positions require certification by a nationally recognized
certifying body appropriate to the specialty area of practice
(Adult, Family, or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner) or within 12
months of graduation, the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse will
achieve certification. **You must attach a copy of your
certification with your application package.**
**License/Registration:** Applicants must have passed the National
Council Licensure Examination and must possess a current, active,
full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional
nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of
Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. **You must attach
a copy of your license/registration with your application
package.**
**APN Registration:** Applicants must possess a license or
registration by the State, the District of Columbia, the
Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States as
a Nurse Practitioner. **You must attach a copy of your
license/registration with your application package.**
In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for
this position you must also meet the qualification requirements
listed below:
**Specialized Experience:** Applicants must demonstrate at least one
year of specialized experience in their resume. Specialized
experience is defined as performing examination and assessments of
patients, obtaining and recording health history of patients,
ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests, and
prescribing a variety of medications to patients. This definition of
experience is typical of work performed at the next lower
grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the
required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet
the qualification requirement using experience alone - no
substitution of education for experience is permitted.
### Education
**FOREIGN EDUCATION:** If you are using education completed in
foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification
requirements, you must show the education credentials have been
evaluated by a private organization that specializes in
interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has
been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S.
education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at
