Job Description **** ATTENTION: This position is in Fulton, Maryland (4 miles South of Columbia, MD) **** Defense Architecture Systems Inc. (DAS) is a cutting-edge engineering firm dedicated to designing, prototyping, and manufacturing advanced sensor technologies for DoD and commercial applications. DAS develops products that enhance mission capabilities for militaryservices.As part of a small business, the Software Engineer II will lead development of novel software/firmware projects, and sensor programming for a variety of military and commercial products in an agile, fast-paced small business environment. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES : DAS requires a dynamic individual able to focus on multiple facets of software design, test/evaluation, deployment, and support.

Individuals should be able to adapt to a variety of roles, including conceptual design, development, testing, production, and support. Representative activities and roles are identified below. REPRESENTATIVE PROJECTS: Reviewing/repairing and generating new C++ code for enhanced instrumentation operations in reliability and speed Leading C++ implementation as part of an integrated team for the control and operation of complex instrumentation Developing and debugging C++ hardware control code using Apache Thrift messaging in Linux environment Migrating Thrift messaging to REST API to enhance operational reliability and efficiency Software support of System Integration of various commercially-available sensors with unmanned platforms (air, ground, and maritime) for commercial and military applications TASKS: Work as a C++ lead in a small SW development team to modify and implement efficient, stable code base for military hardware control, operation, and automated assessment Design, implement and test fault and interrupt tolerant code that gives the users confidence in the function and result of the system Create test plans and regression test methods that automatically test new code releases to ensure that previously verified functions in the main code base are not affected by new code Work with other engineers in the development of commercial and military hardware using a variety of programming techniques, data science methods and analytics Work with electrical and system engineering to produce reliable, manufacturable designs Perform code execution analysis to ensure reliable performance in operational environments including compliance with radiation, thermal, and operational constraints Develop and maintain designdocumentation including alternative designs, decision support tools and baseline performance tracking data Use and implement Maria DB migrating databases from MySQL Participate in proposal development and research in useable and extensible code base SKILL SETS: Demonstrated proficiency in C++ and Linux (and JIRA, Asana, git and agile methods) Demonstrated database management Demonstrated ability to clearly document code basis and provide high level summaries of activities to program/project management team Able to professionally and constructively work with government and commercial clients and teaming partners Work independently and on a team to inform management of critical timelines, issues, and other programmatic relevant information Balance design with prototyping to ensure high quality, affordable solutions with stringent reliability requirements Maintain and complete all code documentation Proficient in written and presentation communication methods Annotate the code design documentation, detailing the processing techniques and the examination results with flowcharts, sequence diagrams and state diagrams Perform administrative and/or technical reviews of reports and proposals MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Expert in C++•Deep familiarity with Object Oriented Programming Experience in developing multithreaded applications Experience with serial communications and sensor integration A positive attitude and love of the work you do BS Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline 3-6years relevant experience in commercial or government engineering position Experience in dividing system functions between hardware and software and producing code architectures for systems engineering tasks DESIRED: MS Degree or higher in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related discipline 4-10 years experience in commercial or military product development Demonstrated experience in government testing and operational activities Experience in embedded operating systems development and GUI development Experience in data science and statistical analysis and Enterprise Architect (or similar) Experience in electromechanical systems programming Experience in development for AVR or ARM architecture microprocessors SECURITY CLEARANCE: This position requires that the candidate be willing and able to complete a successful background screening for a security clearance. Travel is generally in the continental US, and is not expected to exceed 10% of the year.
