Job Description

Scientist I Biological Sciences will be a BS or MS in biochemistry, chemistry, biology, or related field with 2+ years of laboratory experience. Work as part of the drug discovery team to enhance the company pipeline of drugs to treat human diseases. The ideal candidate has a technical lab-based knowledge of in vitro cell-based assays. The candidate will be responsible for performing in vitro cell-based assays using low and high throughput-screening procedures using liquid handling automation, in addition to methods like Western blot, ELISAs and cell proliferation assays. Experience using flow cytometry or microscopy is desirable. This position will work with the Biological Sciences team to discover new kinase inhibitors for the treatment of cancer.

This position will report to a Sr. Scientist, Biological Sciences and is located in our state-of-the-art research facility near the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas.

What You'll Do:
  • Perform routine in vitro drug screening assays for kinase inhibitors
  • Use and maintain high throughput screening equipment
  • Together with supervisor, responsible for validating new in vitro assays and troubleshooting when needed to establish reliable screening platforms
  • Work with the drug discovery team to design and implement experiments to test hypotheses and evaluate mechanisms of kinase inhibitors. These experiments may include sample preparation, routine cell culture, molecular biology, SDS-PAGE, and western blotting.
  • Analyze, track and record data into the corporate database and notebook
  • Generate reports and create presentations as required by the organization
  • Effectively work in a team environment: communicate and plan research with chemists, biologists, and pharmacologists also working on the project.
  • Adhere to corporate policies including safety, FDA compliance and regulatory matters
  • Values other people and promotes the welfare of the organization and colleagues
  • Perform other duties as requested

  • BS or MS degree in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or related field
  • 0-3 years of lab experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment

Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of lab experience
  • Industry experience in the area of drug discovery
  • Experience with high throughput screening equipment and software
  • Experience with immunological assays
