Job Description Summary

We are seeking a self-directed and experienced Controller to direct all financial activities of the Auction and is responsible for the administration and management of the financial controls, including Accounts Receivable and Payable, Customer Disbursements, Payroll, Credit, Internal Controls, Financial Reporting and Analysis. The Controller manages the day to day accounting activities that include month end close, account reconciliations, financial statement reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis that are designed to mitigate risk and enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles. This position will have direct supervision of staff and is the lead Finance person at the Auction. The qualified candidate will have strong quantitative and interpersonal skills, as well as proficiency in software programs such as Sage 50, Peachtree, ASI, and Microsoft Excel. This person must be a team player who is organized with high attention to accuracy and detail, and who has an interest in building successful relationships with clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly financial statement and present to General Manager and management team. Manage monthly close process including journal entries and accrual analysis.
  • Reconcile Balance Sheet Accounts monthly and submit package for compliance review quarterly.
  • ·Pre-pare timely monthly financial statements.
  • ·Monitors and manages the Auction's records and reports in compliance with generally accepted accounting policies (GAAP), including the reconciliation of sales and receivables reports. Distributes the reports to Auction and Corporate management.
  • Prepare, review, and present quarterly forecasts, annual budgets, and long-term plan.
  • ·Develop and implement goals, policies, priorities and procedures relating to financial management, forecasting, budgets, and accounting.
  • Directs the maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers, accounts receivable, revenue distribution, depreciation, cost, property, operating expenses, and insurance records. Direct internal audits involving review of accounting and administrative controls. Coordinate preparation of external audit materials,external financial reporting, and review financial statements with Auction management.
  • Reconcile daily financial information with banking officials, scan checks, prepare deposits and transfer of funds within the required time frame and work with banks as necessary regarding efficient and accurate account management while effectively managing cash flow and paying down loan balances.
  • Reconcile accounts, evaluating the accuracy and effectiveness of the accounting system and assist external auditors in performing reviews and audits of the accounting records.
  • Perform accounting research and analysis; make recommendations regarding appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Prepare various management presentations, financial analyses, and special projects as assigned.
  • Prepare various year end schedules and reconciliations of accounts.
  • Advise and communicate technical accounting matters with all levels of the organization.
  • ·Maintain fixed asset reporting, capital expenditures and schedules.
  • ·Review and analyze revenue and expense transactions, making adjustments as required.
  • ·Comply, support and enforce auction, government and customer policies, procedures and regulations including the monthly preparation and submission of sales tax and use tax as well as oversee financial government reporting such as 8300 forms.
  • Maintain communication with auction departments and management team to ensure high quality of service to customers.
  • Create a productive working environment to ensure the achievement of individual as well as company-wide goals and objectives. Ensure each employee has identified performance goals, and performance reviews are conducted to assess progress towards goals.
  • ·Maintain and develop front office staff by recruiting, selecting, on-boarding and training employees, counseling and disciplining employees as necessary. Plan, monitor and evaluate job performance and conduct performance appraisals.
  • Visibly demonstrate safety commitment by following all safety and health procedures and modeling the behaviors related to such. Work in cooperation with safety leadership in support of all safety activities aligned with Safety Excellence.
  • Review work volumes, plan and continuously monitor staffing levels to ensure efficiency, quality work product, and effective customer service.
  • Effectively leads the team at the location by setting an example in behavior, championing Dealers Auto Auction of the Southwest values and ensuring that all employees are treated with respect.
  • Enforce all company policies and procedures related to employee and customer conduct
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • ·Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Management required.
  • ·CPA certification or MBA preferred.
  • ·5 years accounting experience in positions with increasing responsibilities required.
  • Experience in the automobile or Auctions industry desirable.
  • ·Strong communication, interaction, and presentation skills required.
  • Effective and competent management, accounting, and organizational skills required.
  • ·Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.
  • ·Proven ability to work with all levels of an organization.
  • ·Good computer and software knowledge essential.
  • ·Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Vision abilities required include close, distance, color and depth perception.

Schedule

  • ·Full-Time Position
  • · Mon-Thursday 9 am – 5 pm Fridays 9am – 1 pm
  • · Overtime as needed
