Job Description

 LOCATION: NEWINGTON, CT

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday; 7:30 am - 3:30 pm 

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, ensure proper maintenance of buildings, building security and alarm systems, and related equipment such as forklifts.  Support and provide guidance to facilities staff assigned to maintenance, or subcontractors as necessary. Responsible for performing general maintenance service and repairs as directed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.      Under direction of Manager, assist with organizing and communicating work requirements to staff or people assigned to work on tasks within area of responsibility. Work directly with staff to ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner. 

2.      Perform minor general maintenance service and repairs throughout the plant in the areas of plumbing, welding, carpentry, painting, plastering, electrical or vehicle servicing as directed.

3.      Ensure proper maintenance of the buildings including but not limited to: heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting, and plumbing.  Provide necessary information to maintain required documentation to track service including PMs.

4.      Perform preventive maintenance as directed – building mechanicals, equipment, rack storage systems etc.

5.      Support front office needs, including but not limited to; assemble office furniture and cubicles, moving offices, running lines etc.

6.      As needed, participate in maintenance of road and yard conditions to be clean, proper and safe.  Includes snow and ice removal, lawn and shrubs, etc.  Operate snowplows, forklifts and lifts, as directed.

7.      Be available off hours when needed to tend to company emergency (roof work, snow removal, sprinkle pipe break)

8.      Ensure all personnel assigned to tasks within area of responsibility, including temps and subcontractors, are productive.  Communicate staffing needs to manager as needed.  

9.      Maintain production quality standards. Report any quality problems immediately. 

10.  Ensure all personnel assigned to tasks within area of responsibility, including temps or subcontractors, are trained in and following security, safety, and PPE procedures. Notify manager of any deviations as appropriate. 

11.  Address/correct immediate Safety problems, and notify manager immediately.  Report any unsafe conditions to prevent injury or damage. Assist manger with recording all injuries in the Accident Report Form as soon as an injury occurs. 

12.  Comply with all company rules and regulations. 

13.  Maintain confidentiality of company-sensitive data. 

14.  Implement a commitment to quality philosophy and recommend methods and procedures to reduce cost and/or improve operating efficiency of the department. 

15.  Keep manager/supervisor informed of activities and situations that will impact the achievement of corporate or department goals and objectives. 

16.  Perform other related duties as required to achieve the goals of the department and company. 

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

·         Trade school plus 4-5 years’ experience in general maintenance service and repairs or equivalent.

·         Valid driver’s license

 

COMPETENCIES

·         Good mechanical ability

·         Ability to use hand and power tools, such as: 

            Standard and metric wrenches and sockets

            Screwdrivers

            Electric meter (check voltage / amperage)

            Saws

            Drills

            Electric sander/grinder

            Welders

·         Ability to operate snowplows, snow blowers, shovel snow

·         Ability to operate forklifts and lifts

·         Ability to operate company vehicles

·         Comfortable with heights 25’-30’ (change lamps/ballasts, run wires)

·         Good communication skills

·         Knowledge of computers and ability to maintain reports within system
