Position Description Summary
Reports to the Security Shift Supervisor. Ensures the security of students and staff, buildings, vehicles, and property by checking persons, center grounds, doors, windows, lighting, appliances, equipment, locks, and emergency equipment. Performs dispatch, guard, and administrative duties to assist in the protection of life and property against theft, misappropriation, fire, flood, or similar disaster.
Essential Functions
1. Conducts search and seizures in dormitory.
2. Confiscates contraband, weapons, etc., and delivers confiscated items to the Security Shift Supervisor for proper disposal.
3. Assists center staff and law officers in controlling disturbances; investigates and prepares reports as needed.
4. Transports students on a scheduled or emergency basis.
5. Assists in transporting ill and/or injured students, staff, or others requiring medical attention.
6. Investigates incidents and prepares incident reports.
7. Maintains student accountability.
8. Informs staff and students of unsafe practices and conditions.
9. Provides security gate/desk coverage; ensures that proper check-out and check-in procedures are followed.
10. Performs enforcement duties in accordance with federal law, state statutes, and center rules and regulations in order to maintain the peace and security of students and staff.
11. Patrols buildings and grounds to ensure the physical security of buildings and property by checking doors, windows, lights, electrical appliances, equipment, locks, and emergency equipment.
12. Maintains a log of findings and corrective actions taken.
13. Checks identification of personnel seeking entrance to or exit from the grounds and permits or denies entrance or exit according to established policies and procedures.
14. Responds to fire alarms, takes necessary steps to report fires, and assists in suppressing fires.
15. Sets up and checks operation of intrusion alarm systems in buildings as required.
16. Assists staff and law enforcement personnel in controlling disturbances; takes initial reports and conducts preliminary investigation of crimes.
17. Models, mentors, and monitors the positive normative culture of the center.
18. Acts as a responsible custodian for the assigned center property.
19. Reports violations of ethical behavior.
20. Suggests opportunities for continuous operational improvement and reduction of waste.

Required Education & Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent and two years of related experience
• Associate’s degree in criminal justice is desirable and may be substituted for experience
• One year of experience in firefighting, law enforcement, U.S. military, or safety and security desired
• Previous experience working with youth preferred
Certifications/Competencies
• Ability to promote the Career Success Standards (CSS) by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students when necessary, and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions
• Strong organizational skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Minimum Eligibility Qualifications
• If the position requires driving, a valid driver's license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record is required
• 1-9 documentation required to verify authorization to work in the United States
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check Additional Information
