Sustainability Analyst

Reporting to the Director of Sustainability - Southern Operations, the Sustainability Analyst will, through the Collection & analysis of data (spatial & aspatial), support the Sustainability Team and help drive strategic decisions within the company.

What will you be doing:

  • Support certification related analytics and reporting including data reporting to support internal and external audit process and chain of custody credit accounting.
  • Contribute to the process of documenting, verifying, and auditing the chain of custody, carbon intensity, and sustainability compliance for all inbound fibre flows.
  • Main point of contact for all mapping projects related to inbound fibre flows.
  • Use map tools to display ownership, tenure types, species, age, ecosystem type, and a multitude of other useful attributes about fibre purchases and their contribution to Nature and climate Positive efforts.
  • Analyse raw material deliveries to define the sustainability characteristics in a determined region.
  • Develop monthly visual representations of related procurement activities to be used by the management team to better understand sustainability dynamics on the ground.
  • Conduct landscape level review of the various timber supply regions to determine how the biomass industry impacts various land-use objectives and management goals.
  • Provide analysis of emerging government policies aimed at protection or conservation of wildlife or plant species overlapping with regional sourcing areas.
  • Contribute to sustainability audits by providing map packages showing the origin of primary, secondary and tertiary fibre purchases.
  • Use publicly available data to analyse supplier harvesting activities to determine how those activities impact our supply chain and our biomass sustainability goals.
  • Work with large databases and be able to effectively organize data to report accurate and reliable results.
  • Contribute to the overall greenhouse gas data collection, reporting and auditing process.
  • Using your database management and analytical skills provide detailed monthly reports on energy consumption of each business asset.
  • Assist in providing project level GHG emissions analysis as it relates to CAPEX and new business development.
  • Assist with various other AD-HOC analysis needs for the sustainability team.
  • Manage Arc GIS platform to provide certification related mapping support, management of Nature Serve data (key to compliance and Nature Positive outcomes), and sustainability related spatial data requests.
  • Work closely with Operations teams, UK and North American Carbon specialists to help drive Carbon Footprint Reduction Initiative forward, including GHG emissions analysis as it relates to CAPEX and new business development.
  • Primary responsibility for maintaining ESG site-level sustainability dashboard for US operations.
  • Support metric development and reporting related to key sustainability outcomes, Nature Positive, People Positive, Climate Positive.
  • Support Group-level sustainability, ESG, and communications reporting to enhance transparency and communication of Sustainable Sourcing Policy.
  • Work with large databases and be able to effectively organize data to report accurate and reliable results.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:

  • Masters of Science degree or Bachelor’s degree with proven experience
  • Natural resources or related field (i.e. GIS)
  • Analytical skills
  • Excel experience required
  • 3Log and/or other data management system preferred
  • Arc GIS skills required; experience preferred
  • Familiarity with data analysis software (i.e. R Analytics) a plus

  • Seamless feedback loop with sustainability forester when contemplating sustainability requirements of new fibre purchases.
  • Be able to work effectively with little supervision and incorporate big picture thinking into analysis work.
  • Be able to work cross functionally with members outside of your direct team to achieve job targets.
  • Able to analyse large data sets from multiple sources and deliver concise summaries.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite of programs.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
