Purpose:

The Network Engineer is responsible for Installing, configuring, and maintaining Drax's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), data communications network, operating systems, and physical and virtual servers. Perform system monitoring and verify the integrity and availability of hardware, network, and server resources and systems. Review system and application logs and verify completion of scheduled jobs, including system backups. Analyze network and server resource consumption and control user access. Install and upgrade software and maintain software licenses. May assist in network modelling, analysis, planning, and coordination between network and data communications hardware and software.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Performs day-to-day administration of the network and telephony infrastructure. Escalates to senior administrators and engineers
  • Resolves LAN and WAN issues at remote locations
  • Configures routers, switches, wireless access points, break/fix and new deployment scenarios
  • Coordinates installations of new equipment
  • Upgrades software on routers, switches,
  • Performs moves-adds-changes for VoIP locations
  • Under supervision, designs solutions to support the networking needs of business initiatives
  • Audits and documents the network infrastructure to ensure adherence to company standards
  • Works with vendors to ensure cabling/equipment installations are completed per business requirements
  • Maintain Palo Alto Firewalls

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:

  • Knowledge of the OSI model
  • Experience with functions of devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, VOIP phones and servers
  • Experience with layer 2 switching concepts/technologies: MAC addresses, VLANs, Trunks, STP
  • Experience with IP addressing, subnetting and ARP
  • Knowledge of routing protocols such as: OSPF, EIGRP, BGP
  • Knowledge of remote-access protocols: SSH, Telnet
  • Knowledge of AAA protocols: TACACS+ and RADIUS
  • Knowledge of network discovery protocols: SNMP, Netflow, CDP and LLDP
  • Knowledge of Access Control Lists (ACLs)
  • Experience with common network troubleshooting tools such as ping, traceroute, nslookup
  • Experience with of Quality-of-Service (QoS)
  • Knowledge of VPNs: Preferably Check Point
  • Knowledge of copper and fiber transport medias and their associated standards
  • Experience with Hyper-V and VMware environments
  • Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, VPN, LAN, WAN, VLAN
  • Understanding of IT and OT networking environments
  • Five or more years of experience that includes network design, operational support and hands-on implementation and configuration of network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls and load-balancers
  • CCNA, CCNP, or CCNP certifications preferred
  • Cisco ACI, Cisco, Cisco ASA, Palo Alto Firewalls, Palo Alto Panarama, Cisco CUCM, Unity and UCCX, SolarWinds
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field is preferred
  • Ten (10) years’ experience in IT preferred
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to apply sound business and commercial knowledge

Special Features:
